HP Deskjet D730 Printer - Replacing Ink Cartridges

Introduction

A new ink cartridge needs to be installed when the existing ink cartridge is low or out of ink and the print quality is unacceptable.

Replacing ink cartridges

Step one: Replace the old ink cartridges

  1. Make sure that the product is turned on.
    note:
    The ink cartridge status light blinks, indicating that the ink cartridge is empty or ink level is low.
  2. Open the product cover.
    The carriage moves to the right side of the product.

  3. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent and then lightly press down on an ink cartridge to release it and pull it out.
    • If replacing the tri-color ink cartridge, remove the ink cartridge from the slot on the left.
    • If replacing the black ink cartridge, remove the ink cartridge from the slot on the right.

  4. Remove the new ink cartridge from its packaging.
  5. Pull the pink tab to remove the plastic tape from the ink cartridge.

    1. Copper-colored contacts
    2. Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing)
    3. Ink nozzles under tape
      caution:
    Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles.
  6. Hold the ink cartridge with the label facing up and the copper contacts facing the product.
    • If installing the tri-color ink cartridge, slide it into the left slot.
    • If installing the black ink cartridge, slide it into the right slot.
  7. Insert the ink cartridge into the carriage and push it in until it snaps into place.

  8. Close the product cover.

Step two: Align the new ink cartridges

Once new ink cartridges are installed, the product automatically aligns the cartridge and prints an alignment page.
If the alignment page does not print automatically, follow these steps to manually align the ink cartridges.
Use these steps to align the ink cartridge and print an alignment page.
  1. Load letter-size or A4-size, unused, plain, white paper in the paper tray.
  2. Double-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon () on the right side of the Windows taskbar.
    The HP Solution Center dialog box opens.
  3. In the HP Solution Center, click Settings, and then click Printer Toolbox. The printer Toolbox opens.
  4. Click Align the Print Cartridges.
  5. Click Align. An alignment page prints.

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions and click Continue. A second alignment page prints.

  7. Follow the on-screen instructions:
    • If the printed patterns look like the on-screen example, click Done.
    • If the printed pattern does not look like the on-screen example, click Align to repeat the alignment.
