Opening the PC Case in Compaq Presario SG3000, V6000 and HP Pavilion dv6000 Desktop PCs

This document pertains only to HP desktop computers with the following computer cases:
Before you begin
  • Turn off the computer, disconnect all cables, and transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor. Disconnect the modem cable before you disconnect the power cord.
  • HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.
  warning:
The edges of metal panels can cut skin. Be careful not to slide skin along any interior metal edge of the computer.
  caution:
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.
Video overview
View the following video before using the steps in this article.
  note:
For best quality on dial-up connections, wait until the video has fully loaded before viewing.
Removing the side panel
To access most components, remove the side panel.
  warning:
Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.
Step 1. With all cables disconnected from the computer, loosen the thumb screw that connects the side panel to the computer case.
Step 2. Grasp the handle on the panel, and pull toward the back of the computer.
Step 3. Remove the panel from the computer system.
The right side panel is now removed, providing access to the parts inside the computer.
Replacing the side panel
Before replacing the panel, be sure all components have been connected inside the computer.
The side panel has several interior tabs on its top, bottom, and leading edges.
These tabs fit into corresponding slots over the front edge of the computer.
Step 1. To reattach the panel, align the tabs on the panel over the slots on the computer and lay the panel in place.
Step 2. Slide the panel forward to lock it into position.
Step 3. Reattach the thumb screw.
