Overview
HP Remote Proofing allows you to generate files with specific color profiles and print settings that clients or coworkers can print with the assurance of consistent color at any location. HP Remote Proofing generates a file called a remote proofing file (RPF). The RPF is made up of two components:
-
A PDF/X3 component, with the image data and color profiles.
-
A JDF component (also called a job ticket) with all the RIP settings (for example, media and print quality settings).
How does remote proofing work
The HP Remote Proofing Software is a separate application that can be used with the HP Designjet 10ps, 20ps, and 50ps RIPs. It provides a common user interface to generate and print remote proofing files on any of the 10ps/20ps/50ps RIPs.
Generating an RPF
There are several ways to create an RPF. The most common way to is drag and drop a file onto the Remote Proofing software interface. A window will open to specify a proofing job ticket to be assigned to the file. Another method is to drop the file into a Remote Proofing Hot Folder (not the same as a RIP Hot Folder). The settings assigned to that Hot Folder would be applied to the RPF.
note:Adobe Acrobat Distiller program is required to create an rpf file when using file formats that are not supported by the remote proofing software.
Printing the RPF
There are several ways to print an RPF. The most common method is to drag and drop the RPF into the Remote Proofing software interface. A window will open showing the job ticket information; printing starts after the job is confirmed. Another method is to drop the file into the HP Remote Proofing Hot Folder. Remote Proofing will print the RPF without asking for confirmation.
The Remote Proofing software will unpack the RPF, set the RIP settings according to the JDF, extract the color profile and the image from the PDF/X3, send all this information to the RIP (10ps/20ps/50ps) and then the RIP will print the file.
