HP Digital Home Networking - File Sharing Using Microsoft(R) Windows XP

Introduction
Follow the instructions in this document to set up file sharing using Windows XP and the HN200x.
Instructions
  1. Log on with administrator privileges.
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click Control Panel.
    3. Double-click User Accounts.
    4. Click Create a New Account.
    5. Type a name for the new account and click Next.
    6. Ensure the account type is Computer Administrator.
    7. Log in with this account to have file sharing privileges.
  2. Disable all firewalls.
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click Control Panel.
    3. Double-click Network Connections.
    4. Right-click LAN or Highspeed Internet.
    5. Left-click Properties.
    6. Click the Advanced Tab.
    7. Uncheck the Internet Connection Firewall.
    8. Click OK.
  3. Enable file and print sharing on each computer.
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click Control Panel.
    3. Double-click Network Connections.
    4. Right-click LAN or Highspeed Internet.
    5. Left-click Properties.
    6. Click File and Printsharing from Microsoft Networks.
    7. Click OK.
  4. Ensure that TCP/IP is enabled.
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click Control Panel.
    3. Double-click Network Connections.
    4. Right-click LAN or Highspeed Internet.
    5. Click Internet Protocol TCP/IP (If there is no checkbox for Internet Protocol TCP/IP, click Install, highlight Protocol, click Add, Select TCP/IP, click OK.).
    6. Click OK.
  5. Share the folder.
    1. Right-click the folder.
    2. Click Sharing and security.
    3. Select the Network Sharing and Security Tab.
    4. Click Share this folder in the network.
    5. If you want to give other users the ability to change or delete shared files, click Allow network users to change my files (If you want other users to read shared files but not change them, do not click this box.).
    6. Click OK.
  6. Access the shared folder.
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click My Computer.
    3. Click My Network Places.
    4. Click View Workgroup Computers.
    5. Click OK.
    6. An alternate method of completing Step 6 is to click Start, click Run, type \\ipaddress\ or \\computer name\, then click OK.
