HP Gaming Notebook PCs - Using Adaptive Battery Optimizer

Select HP gaming notebook PCs include Adaptive Battery Optimizer, which monitors battery temperature, charging status, and battery use patterns to maximize the battery lifespan.

When Adaptive Battery Optimizer detects certain conditions, protective measures are activated to minimize premature battery wear.

Note:

While protective measures are activated, the battery run time might be slightly reduced.

Adaptive Battery Optimizer technology is initially enabled on most HP gaming notebook PCs starting from 2020.

Enable or disable Adaptive Battery Optimizer

To ensure that you get the maximum possible lifespan out of your battery, HP recommends leaving Adaptive Battery Optimizer enabled, although it can be disabled at any time. Disabling turns off any protective measures that were implemented and immediately restores any run time that was lost.

Note:

Disabling Adaptive Battery Optimizer does not affect the battery warranty in any way.

  1. Start or restart the computer.

  2. Press f10 to enter HP Computer Setup.

  3. Select Configuration.

  4. Change the status to Enabled or Disabled.

  5. Save the change and Exit.

Determine if protective measures are active

You can check the Adaptive Battery Optimizer status using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.

  1. Start or restart the computer.

  2. Press esc to access the startup menu.

  3. Press f2 to start HP PC Diagnostics UEFI.

  4. Select Power, and then select Battery.

  5. Select Run Once.

  6. After the test is completed, select Battery Details.

  7. Check the Adaptive Battery Optimizer status:

    • Enabled/Not Activated: The feature is ON, but no protective measures are active.

      Note:

Adaptive Battery Optimizer activates after certain conditions, such as a high battery temperature, are detected.

    • Enabled/Activated: The feature is ON, and protective measures are active because of battery temperature, battery charging status, or usage patterns.

    • Disabled/Not Activated: The feature is OFF, and no protective measures are active.
