Samsung CLX-3170, CLX-3175 Color Laser MFP - Loading the Paper Tray and Changing the Size of Paper

This document provides instructions on how to change the size of paper in the paper tray.
To load longer sizes of paper, such as legal-sized paper, adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray. To change tray 1 to hold a different size of paper, you must adjust the paper length guide properly.

Changing the size of paper in tray 1

Use the following steps to load a stack of letter-sized paper into tray 1.
  1. Open tray 1, then open the paper cover and remove any paper from the tray.
  2. Press and unlatch the guide lock (1) in the top of the tray, then pull the tray out manually (2).

For paper that is smaller than letter-sized: return the paper guides to their original positions and adjust the paper length guide and paper width guide.
Figure : For paper shorter than letter-sized
For paper shorter than 222 mm (8.74 inches) in length, press and unlatch the guide lock (1) in the tray, then push the tray in manually (2). Adjust the paper length guide and paper width guide.

    note:
    • Do not push the paper width guides far enough to cause the materials to warp.
    • If you do not adjust the paper width guides, it may cause paper jams.

  6. Slide tray 1 back into the printer.
  7. After loading paper, set the paper type and size for the tray.
    note:
    • The paper length guide can move if there is not enough paper in the tray. Make sure to have enough paper loaded in the tray.
    • If you experience paper feed issues, load paper into the tray one piece of paper at a time.
    • For previously printed paper: Load the tray with the printed side facing up with an uncurled edge at the front. If you experience paper feed issues, turn the paper around. Print quality is not guaranteed.

Changing the tray between letter and A4

The tray is preset to letter or A4 size, depending on your country. To change the size to A4 or Letter, you must adjust the lever and paper width guide properly. Use the following steps to adjust the guides.
  1. Pull the tray out of the printer. Open the paper cover and remove paper from the tray if necessary.
  2. If you want to change the size to letter, hold the lever at the back of the tray, and rotate the lever clockwise.

  3. Squeeze the paper width guide and slide it to the edge of the lever.

    note:
If you want to change the size to A4, first move the paper width guide to the left and rotate the lever counterclockwise. If you force the lever, it could damage the tray.
