Remove and Replace the Display Panel Assembly on the HP Pavilion x2 Detachable 12-b000 Notebook

This document applies to HP Pavilion x2 Detachable 12-b000 Notebook.

Before you begin

Have available a non-marring flat-bladed prying tool.
Turn off the computer. Disconnect the Ethernet or modem cable. Disconnect the power cord.
Transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor.
HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.
Do not remove a component from its protective packaging until you are ready to install it.

warning:
Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting. Before starting, power off the computer and wait for components to cool before starting these procedures.

caution:
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing the display panel assembly

Use the steps in this section to remove the display panel assembly.

Step 1 Using a non-marring flat-bladed tool, carefully release the display panel assembly from the display enclosure. caution: To prevent damage to the display enclosure, take extreme care when the flat bladed tool is near any of the external buttons or connectors.
Step 2 Lift the display panel assembly off of the display enclosure until you have access to the battery and display panel ZIF connectors.
Step 3 Disconnect the battery cable from its connector on the system board.
Step 4 Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the display panel ZIF connector and disconnect the display panel ribbon cable from the system board. caution: Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connectors and ribbon cables while performing the steps in this document.
Step 5 Remove the display panel assembly.

Replacing the display panel assembly

Use the steps in this section to replace the display panel assembly.

Step 1 Before installing a new display panel assembly, remove the display panel cable from the old display panel assembly and install it on the new display panel assembly.
Step 2 Place the display panel assembly in front of the display enclosure so that you have access to the display panel cable and ZIF connector.
Step 3 Insert the display panel ribbon cable into the display panel ZIF connector on the system board and press the locking bar down to lock the cable into place.
Step 4 Insert the battery cable into its connector on the system board.
Step 5 Place the display panel assembly into position on the display enclosure.
Step 6 Carefully press down on the edges of the display panel assembly to snap it into place.
