HP PCs - New HP Connected Music (Windows 8.1)

This document applies to HP computers with Windows 8.1.
With the HP Connected Music application, you can listen to Internet radio and play music files stored on your computer. The New HP Connected Music is focused on streaming music services. Sign up and subscribe to Deezer (outside the US) or UMG (outside the US), for a personalized music streaming experience. Use this document to learn more about installing and using the HP Connected Music app, Deezer, and UMG.
Installing HP Connected Music
HP Connected Music is a free app you can download from the Windows Store. You do not need to uninstall the previous version of HP Connected Music to download or use the newer version. Use the following steps to download and install the HP Connected Music app.
  1. While connected to the Internet, click the Windows Store tile on the Start screen.

  2. Search for HP Connected Music, and then click HP Connected Music.

  3. Click the Install button to begin downloading HP Connected Music. A notification displays when the app is done downloading.

  4. The HP Connected Music app displays on the Apps page. To add the HP Connected Music tile to your Start page, right-click and hold the HP Connected Music icon to select, and then click Pin to Start.

  5. To open the app, click the HP Connected Music app tile. The app opens in a new window.

  6. HP Connected Music asks to use your location. Click Allow or Block based on your preference.
HP Connected Music automatically finds music stored in the Music folder on your computer and includes the music in the HP Connected Music library.
Configuring HP Connected Music
You can configure HP Connected Music from either the HP Connected Music home screen, the Deezer home screen, or the UMG home screen. Use the following steps to access HP Connected Music Settings.
  1. Move the mouse pointer to the lower-right corner to open the Charms menu, and then click the Settings icon .

  2. The Settings menu displays options for configuring HP Connected Music and Deezer (outside the US).

    • About: Provides information about HP Connected Music and access to the Meridian Service Agreement and Privacy Statement.
    • Options: Allows you to rescan for recently added music. All music must be located in the Music folder on your computer. If you have signed up for Deezer (outside the US), you have the option to go directly to the Deezer home screen when the app starts up.

    • Service Settings (only available outside the US): Includes information about your Deezer account. After clicking Service Settings, click Deezer to access the menu.

    • Help: Sends you to the HP Connected Music Customer Support website.
    • Support Forum: Sends you to the HP support forum page.
    • Permissions: Allows you to adjust your privacy settings.

    • Rate and Review: Sends you to a Windows Store page to rate and review HP Connected Music.
You are ready to add music to your HP Connected Music library.
Adding music files to your HP Connected Music library
The HP Connected Music app adds music to your library from the Music folder on your computer. You can add more music to your library by buying music through an online source, downloading music from another device, or importing music CDs. HP Connected Music only finds music stored in the Music folder on your computer.
To open the HP Connected Music app, click the app tile on the Start screen.

You are now ready to listen to music from your HP Connected Music library.
Listening to music
Use HP Connected Music to listen to music from your library, create and listen to a playlist, or listen to music on Internet radio. Open the HP Connected Music app by clicking the app tile on the Start screen.

Navigate HP Connected Music using on-screen menus or access the navigation tool bar. Right-click and hold anywhere on the screen to display the navigation tool bar along the top of the screen. From the navigation tool bar you can go to the HP Connected Music home page, your music library, your playlists, Deezer, or UMG home pages. You can also open TuneIn radio or the Now Playing screen.

For help within HP Connected Music, click the Help button on the far right side of the Navigation tool bar.
You can also open the Windows Charms menu and select Help from the Settings menu. For instructions on accessing and using the Settings menu go to the Configuring HP Connected Music section of this document.
Track information and audio controls include:
  • Status Bar - The Status Bar indicates how long the track is and how much of the track has played.
  • Loop - Click this icon once to replay the entire album, artist, or playlist. Click the icon a second time to replay only the current track.
  • Previous track - Click this icon to replay the previous track.
  • Pause/Play - Click this icon to pause the current track. Click again to continue to play the track.
  • Next track - Click this icon to skip to the next track.
  • Mix - Click this icon to listen to album, artist, or playlist tracks in random order.
Signing up with Deezer (outside the US)
Deezer is an on-demand music streaming service available on Windows computers through the new HP Connected Music app. Deezer is designed to help you enjoy music you know and find new music. Use the following steps to create a new Deezer account.
  1. From the HP Connected Music home page, click the Deezer tile.

  2. Click Login/Signup to try Deezer.

  3. Fill in the required information. Click the links to read the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, and then click Sign Up.
  4. Click Finish when you are done to go to the Deezer home screen.
Using Deezer (outside the US)
The Deezer home page includes; Recommendations, Deezer Picks, Charts, Radio Channels, Deezer Playlists, and Favorites. The Deezer home page is customized for your preferences.

You must be connected to the Internet to access Deezer.

Signing up with UMG (Universal Music Group) (outside the US)
You can use the UMG radio service to stream music from the UMG music catalog. Registering for this service entitles you to 12 months of unlimited music streaming. In addition, after you register, you can access your music using your notebook, mobile phone, or tablet. Complete the following steps to register the UMG service.
  1. From the HP Connected Music home page, click the Never Miss a Beat tile.

  2. Click the Rock on Now! button.

  3. In the Our Platform Uses Cookies message box, the Continue to Use HP Connected Music button.
      note:
    If you do not select the Continue to Use HP Connected Music option, your experience on HP Connected Music may be affected.

  4. To register to UMG, click the Complete Registration button on the UMG home page.

  5. Type the sign up information, and then click the Complete Registration button.

  6. When the Your Account has been successfully registered message box opens, click the Continue to Page button.
Using UMG (outside the US)
The UMG home page includes access to Radio, Competitions, News, the Featured Artist, Videos, and the Download Store.

  1. To select the radio options, click Radio.
    From this page, you can select radio music by genre or mood.

    In addition, you can choose Most Listened To artists or Artist Radio.
  2. To view the competition options, click Latest Competitions.

    From this page, you can select the latest news items or the top news items.
