HP Officejet 7610, 7612 Printers - Setting Up the Printer Hardware

This document is for the HP Officejet 7610 and 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One printers.
This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the printer. Complete these steps before you install the printer software on your computer.
Install for a wireless or wired (Ethernet) network connection

Setting up the printer

Follow these steps in order. When you are finished, you can click the appropriate link at the end of this document if you need instructions to install the printer software.
note:
Do not connect a USB cable now. If you plan to use a USB cable to connect the printer to the computer, you will be prompted to connect it at the correct time during the software installation.

Step one: Check the contents of the box

The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.

Step two: Unpack the printer

Follow these steps to unpack the printer.
  1. Remove all tape and packing materials from outside the printer.

  2. Lift the printer scanning lid, and then remove all tape and packing materials inside.
  3. Lift the carriage access door, and then remove all tape and packing materials inside the printer.
      caution:
    To avoid injury, make sure the carriage access door is fully raised before removing the tape and packing materials.
  4. Remove all tape and packing materials from the rear of the printer.

Step three: Install the printer trays

Follow these steps to install the input tray extender and output tray.
  1. Line up the input tray extender with the input tray.
  2. Push the input tray extender onto the input tray until it is seated.

  3. Place the output tray on top of the input tray extender.
  4. Push the tray inward until it snaps into place.

Step four: Connect the power cord

  1. Turn the printer to access its rear side.
  2. Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  3. Plug the power cord into the power supply.
  4. Plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

Step five: Turn on the printer

Adjust the display to a comfortable angle, and then press the Power button to turn on the printer.

Step six: Load paper in the tray

Use the following steps to load paper in the input tray.
  1. Raise the output tray.

  2. To load oversized paper, pull the input tray extender out as far as possible.
  3. Slide out the paper width guides as far as possible.
  4. Insert a stack of clean, unused, plain paper into the input tray with the short edge forward and the print side down.
      caution:
    Do not load paper while the printer is printing. Jams or paper feed issues might occur.
  5. Position the stack of paper in the center of the input tray, and then slide the stack forward until it stops.
  6. Adjust the paper width guides so that they rest against the stack of paper. Do not push the guides in so tightly that they bind against the paper.

  7. Lower the output tray, and then pull out the tray extender.

Step seven: Set the language and country/region

Follow these steps to set the language and country/region.
  1. On the printer control panel, touch the Down Arrow () until the desired language displays.
  2. Touch the desired language, and then touch Yes to accept the language setting.
  3. Touch the Down Arrow () until the desired Country/Region displays.
  4. Touch the desired Country/Region, and then touch Yes to accept the country/region setting.

Step eight: Install the cartridges

Follow these steps to install the print cartridges.
  caution:
Failure to install the SETUP cartridges that came with the printer causes a cartridge error.
  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Lift the carriage access door, and then open the cartridge access door.

  3. Remove the setup cartridge from its packaging.
  4. Hold the cartridge so that the cartridge contacts are facing toward the printer.
  5. Slide the new cartridge into its slot, and then gently push it forward until it clicks into place.
    note:
    Make sure that the colored dot on the cartridge label matches the colored dot on the slot.

  6. Repeat these steps for the other cartridges.

  7. Close the cartridge access door, and then close the carriage access door.
