HP Photosmart 7520 Printers - First Time Printer Setup

This document is for HP Photosmart 7520 and 7525 e-All-in-One printers.
To set up a printer for the first time, unpack the printer, connect the power cable, set your preferences, load paper in the main input tray, and then install the ink cartridges.
note:

Step 1: Remove the printer from the box

Remove the printer from the box and all tape, stickers, and packing materials from the printer.
The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.
  1. Remove all tape and packing materialfrom the printer.

  2. Open the ink cartridge access door, and then remove the tape from inside the printer.

  3. Close the ink cartridge access door.

Step 2: Connect the power cord and turn on the printer

Connect the printer to a power source, and then turn on the printer.
  1. Connect the cord attached to the power adapter to the rear of the printer, connect the power cord to the power adapter, and then plug the power cord into a wall outlet.

  2. Turn on the printer.

Step 3: Select your language and country/region

When you turn on the printer, it prompts you to select your language and region.
  1. Touch your desired language, and then touch Yes to confirm the language choice.
    The Set Country/Region menu displays.
  2. Touch your desired country/region, and then touch Yes to confirm the country/region choice.

Step 4: Adjust the control panel display

You can adjust the control panel of your HP printer to the viewing angle that works best for you.
  1. Grasp the top of the control panel and pull it firmly forward.
    The control panel clicks into place at each available viewing angle.
  2. Choose the viewing angle that works best for you, and then touch OK.
  3. Touch Setup to continue setting up your printer.

Step 5: Set the time and date

The printer prompts you to set the time and date.
note:
If you need to return to the previous screen at any time, touch the back icon .
  1. The Set Time screen displays.
  2. Touch the up arrow or the down arrow to set the correct hour and minutes.
  3. Touch AM or PM.
  4. Touch OK to confirm the time you set.
  5. Using the numbers on the control panel, touch the numbers for the current month, day, and four-digit year, and then touch OK.
    note:
    The date format is MM/DD/YYYY. You must enter two digits for the month and day and four digits for the year. If you make a mistake, you can touch the backspace icon in the upper right corner.

Step 6: Load plain paper

Load plain white paper in the main input tray, and then wait for the printer to perform an automatic alignment.
The following video demonstrates how to load paper.

This video shows the HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One printer, but the steps are the same for your printer
  1. Raise the photo tray.
  2. Slide the paper width guides to their outermost positions.

  3. Load a stack of plain paper into the tray with the short edge facing toward the printer and the print side down (if the paper has a print side). Push the stack into the tray until it stops.

  4. Slide the paper width guides until they rest against the edges of the paper.

  5. Close the photo tray and the paper tray, pull the tray extender toward you, and then extend the paper catch until it is fully extended.

Step 7: Install the ink cartridges

Install the HP ink cartridges that shipped in the box with your printer, and then wait for the printer to perform an automatic alignment.
  1. Open the ink cartridge access door.
    The carriage moves to the access area.

  2. Remove the protective cap from the carriage.

  3. Pull the orange tab to remove the plastic wrap from an ink cartridge.

  4. Remove the orange cap from the ink cartridge. Twist the cap counter-clockwise until it snaps off.

  5. With the nozzle and the contacts facing down, push the ink cartridge into its slot. Press down on the ink cartridge until it snaps into place.
    Make sure the color icon on the ink cartridge label matches the color icon on the slot.

  6. Repeat these steps to insert the other ink cartridges.
  7. Close the ink cartridge access door.

    The printer checks the ink cartridges and verifies they are genuine HP ink cartridges. Once the verification is complete, the printer automatically performs an alignment. The alignment process ensures the best possible print quality from your HP printer.
  8. Touch OK when the printer completes the alignment.

Step 8: Install the printer software

Your HP printer hardware is now set up and you can install the printing software. Do not attempt to connect the printer to a computer until instructed to do so in the printing software.
