Error message during Firmware upgrade from HP Designjet System Maintenance Utility

Description of the Issue: The error message "The file C:\.....\*.fmw which is needed in order to perform the command has not been found in the installation directory c:\program files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Designjet System maintenance" is found to occur on many occasions while updating the firmware from HP Designjet System maintenance utility using the downloaded firmware file from HP Website.

OS: Windows Vista/XP
Connectivity: USB/Network

Solution

The System Maintenance looks for the firmware file under following folder "c:\program files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Designjet System maintenance" even though the correct path for the firmware file is mentioned in the update firmware window (Using Browse button) using system maintenance.

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

Copy and paste the required .fmw file under the directory c:\program files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Designjet System maintenance.
Ensure that the printer is in Ready state. Open HP Designjet System Maintenance, Click Advanced Functions and select Update firmware.
On the update firmware screen, choose the following option:

“If you do not have access to the internet and would like to send a new firmware to your printer which you have received from HP, click here”
Select the Browse button and browse to c:\program files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Designjet System maintenance and select the *.fmw file.
Click the Update firmware button. The printer’s front panel will indicate it is busy until the firmware upgrade is finished.
