HP Photosmart C5200 All-in-One Printer Series- Setting up the All-in-One (Hardware)


This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.
This document includes the following steps to set up the product:
  • Unpack the All-in-One
  • Check the contents of the box
  • Prepare the control panel
  • Connect the power cord and adapter
  • Turn the product on
  • Load plain white paper
  • Install the cartridges
  • Align the cartridges

Setting up the All-in-One

Follow these steps in order.

Step one: Unpack the All-in-One

Remove all tape, tabs, and protective film from the lid and from the front and back of the product.

Step two: Check the contents of the box

The contents may vary by country/region. Refer to the packaging for the actual contents.

Step three: Prepare the control panel

  1. If the control panel faceplate is not attached, place the faceplate in position, and then press down firmly on all the edges to secure it.

  2. Adjust the angle of the display for viewing.

    Pay attention to messages on the display during the setup process.

Step four: Connect the power cord and adapter

Step five: Turn the All-in-One on

Press the On () button to turn on the product.

If the control panel display prompts you to set your language and country/region, use the arrow keys to make selections in the menu, and then press OK to confirm your selections.

Step six: Load plain white paper

  1. Raise the output tray to load paper into the main input tray.
  2. Insert the stack of paper into the main input tray with the short edge forward and the side to be printed on facing down. Slide the stack forward until it stops.

  3. Slide the paper-width guide inward until it stops at the edge of the paper.
    Do not overload the main input tray. Make sure the stack of paper fits within the main input tray and is no higher than the top of the paper-width guide.

    Make sure that the product is idle and silent when loading paper into the main input tray. If the product is servicing the cartridges or is otherwise engaged in a task, the paper stop inside the product might not be in place. If the stop is not in place, the stack can be pushed too far forward, causing the product to eject blank pages.
  4. Lower the output tray.
  5. Pull the output tray extension out as far as it goes.

Step seven: Install the cartridges

The product must be turned on and the CD/DVD tray must be in the up position before you can insert the cartridges.
  1. Lift the cartridge door.

  2. Remove the tape from the cartridges.

    Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or re-tape the cartridges.

  3. With the HP logo on top, insert the tri-color cartridge in the left slot and the black or photo cartridge in the right slot.

  4. Push the cartridges in firmly until they snap into place.

  5. Close the cartridge door.
  6. Press OK when prompted to confirm the installation of genuine HP cartridges.

Step eight: Align the cartridges

  1. On the product control panel, press OK at each of the prompts tostart cartridge alignment.Wait a few minutes while the alignment page prints.
  2. Check thecontrol panel display for the status, and then press OK.
