HP has released software update sp26813 to address this problem. You can download this update, A8N-LA/A8M2N-LA MAC Address Flash Utility, from the software and driver downloads section of your PC's support site. Go to the HP Software and Driver page and enter your model number to find software for your model of HP or Compaq computer.

1. Make sure you are logged on as an Administrator.
2. Click Start, and then Run.
3. In the open text field, type ncpa.cpl and press the Enter key.
   The network properties window opens.
4. Right-click on Local Area Connection (the connection of the network controller) and select Properties.
5. From the General tab, place the mouse pointer over the network adapter name text (in the "Connect using:" area) and look for either of these physical addresses: 00-04-0B-80-80-80 or 00-15-F2-C7-CC-1A (not case sensitive).
   If neither of these physical addresses is present, the BIOS update is not affecting the Internet connection. If this is the case, for further help, refer to the HP support document Resolving Cable, DSL, or Other Broadband Internet Connection Problems.
   If either of these two physical addresses is present, the PC is affected by the BIOS update issue, this is probably why a connection to the Internet is not possible. The physical address for the Local Area Connection must be changed to connect to the Internet. Continue using these steps.
6. Close the properties window for Local Area Connection.
7. Right-click the 1394 Connection icon and select Properties.
8. From the General tab, place the mouse pointer over the text "1394 Net Adapter" and write down the physical address (MAC Address) that appears.
   Make sure it is not 00-04-0B-80-80-80 or 00-15-F2-C7-CC-1A.
   
9. Once you have written the unique address from the Firewire connection, proceed with the following steps to make the LAN connection use the unique address from the Firewire connection.

1. Click Start, Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, and then Network Connections.
2. Right-click Local Area Connection, and select Properties.
   The Local Area Connection Properties window opens.
3. Click the General tab, and then click Configure.
   The NIC Properties window opens.
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. Under Property, select Network Address or Locally Administered Address.
6. In the Value text field, enter the physical address you recorded in the previous section.
   Do not include colons, dashes, or any other separator when entering the physical address. For example: 02XXXXXXXXAB.
7. Click OK.
8. Shut down the PC.
9. Reset the broadband (cable/DSL) router:
   1. Remove the AC adapter plug from the back of the router, and wait for all the lights to go out.
   2. Reconnect the AC adapter to the router, and wait for it to reset completely. The router is reset when all the lights stop blinking.
10. When the router is reset, restart the PC.
11. Attempt to connect to the Internet.
    If further issues persist, contact your Internet Service Provider or refer to the HP support document Resolving Cable, DSL, or Other Broadband Internet Connection Problems.
