HP PSC 2400 and 2500 Series - Streaks or Lines in the Printed Image

Problem

The printer is working, but printed output shows streaks or lines. The lines are perpendicular to the direction the paper moved through the printer (and parallel to the movement of the cartridges during printing).
Figure : Defect, with the direction the paper moved through the printer indicated

Solution

  1. Make sure the printer is set to Best print quality. Open Director, then click Settings, Print Settings, then Printer Settings. The printer Properties dialog box opens. Click the Quality tab and make sure Best is selected in the Print Quality area.
  2. Replace any cartridges that are out of ink. Click here to see how to check ink levels.
  3. Make sure the paper lies flat in the paper tray. If the paper is curled, try bending it in the direction opposite the curl to straighten it. Make sure to store photo paper in a sealed plastic bag to keep it from curling.
  4. Try increasing the Ink Volume setting. Open HP Director, then click Settings, Print Settings, then Printer Settings. The printer Properties dialog box opens. Click the Basics tab, then Advanced Features. Click and drag the Ink Volume slider toward Heavy.
  5. Print and evaluate a self-test report to see if the printer is causing the problem. Click here to see how.
