If unable to use the standard installation process, install the driver from the CD-ROM. The HP Designjet 5000 PS requires the HP-GL/2 Raster driver and the PostScript driver. Repeat the following process for each driver:
  1. If the output sent to the printer will go directly to the printer by network without being stored on another computer, it is necessary to create a network port before installing the driver. Consult the network documentation or network administrator for more information.
  2. Click Start, then Settings, then Printers to open the Printers dialog box.
  3. Double-click the Add Printer icon to open the Add Printer Wizard dialog box. HP recommends that the New Driver button in the Printer Properties dialog box not be used to install or to upgrade this driver.
  4. Follow the steps on the screen.
Below are some questions that may be required to answer, depending on the system configuration.
How is this printer attached to the computer?
  1. Select Local Printer if the output sent to the printer will go directly by cable or network without being stored on another computer.
  2. Select Network Printer if the output sent to the printer will go through another computer. In this case, all settings for the printer are managed by a printer server that is set up by an administrator.
  3. Click Have Disk.
  4. In the Install From Disk dialog box, type the location of the driver to install, and click OK. (The HP-GL/2 Raster driver on the CD-ROM is in the folder called HPGL2Ras. The PostScript driver is in the folder called PS5000. Choose the correct path for the language and operating system being used.)
  5. Select the HP Designjet printer from the list, and click Next.
Keep the existing driver or use the new one?
Select Replace Existing Driver.
If installing files for a new version, and this question appears, it is recommended to replace the existing driver.
Printing from MS-DOS-based programs?
It is recommend to select No, unless there is an MS-DOS driver that can print to an HP Designjet series printer.
Manually installing the Adobe (R) PostScript driver
The HP Designjet 800PS and 5000PS both have internal RIPs, and Postscript drivers for both are located in the same folder.
  1. Install the printer as you would any other printer, only when you get to the list of manufacturer's and printers, select Have Disk.
  2. Browse the Software Setup CD to the PS5000 folder, then the EN folder (or language you are installing).
  3. Select the operating system folder.
  4. Double-click OEMSETUP.INF (it is the same as if you are installing a raster or Windows driver, but it is specific to the two printers 5000PS and 800PS).
  5. Follow the instructions to complete the installation of the printer.
The title of the PostScript driver will be HP Designjet 5000 PS3. The Windows or raster driver will read HP Designjet 5000PS 42 by HP.
