HP Desktop PCs - Setting Your PC to Turn On Automatically at a Certain Time (Wake on LAN)

This document applies to HP desktop x86 computers.
Set your computer to turn itself on at a specified day and time, for example when you arrive at work. Use the steps in this document to configure your computer's BIOS Power-On setting and automatically have your computer turn on at a certain day and time.

Enabling the Power-On feature

Perform the following steps to access the BIOS and enable the Power-On feature:
  1. From a powered-off state, turn on the computer and immediately press the F10 key repeatedly, about once every second.
  2. When the BIOS menu appears, press the Right arrow key to highlight the Advanced tab.

  3. Press the Down arrow key to highlight BIOS Power-On, and then press the Enter key to select.

  4. Press the Up and Down arrow keys to select the day. Then press the Right and Left arrow keys to change the settings. Select Enable to turn on the computer automatically on that day.

  5. Press the Down arrow key to highlight Time (hh:mm).
  6. To set the time when the computer should turn on, do the following:
    • To increase or decrease the hour setting, use the Up and Down arrow keys.
    • Press the Tab key to highlight the minutes setting.
    • To increase or decrease the minute setting, use the Up and Down arrow keys.
    Примечание.
    The time is in a 24-hour format (for example, 1:30PM is written as 13:30). You can only set one time that will apply to every day the BIOS Power-On feature is enabled.

  7. When the BIOS Power-On settings are configured according to your needs, press the F10 key to accept the settings.
  8. Return to the BIOS menu and press the Right arrow key to highlight the Power tab.

  9. Press the Down arrow key to highlight the Hardware Power Management, and then press the Enter key to select.

  10. Use the Down arrow key to highlight S4/S5 Wake on LAN, and then press the Right arrow key to select Enable.

  11. Press the F10 key to accept the changes.
  12. Press the Left arrow key to highlight the File tab.

  13. Press the Down arrow key to highlight Save Changes and Exit, and then press the Enter key to confirm.

  14. Press the Enter key again to confirm.

    The computer starts up into Windows.
  16. Check that your computer's time zone and clock settings are accurate. To change time and date settings, refer to the HP support document HP PCs - Setting Time and Date, Clock Losing Time, Time and Date Incorrect (Windows 8).
The computer is now set to turn on automatically on the designated day(s) and time.
