HP LaserJet Pro MFP - Send a fax
Use the information in this document to learn how to send a fax from the printer or from the fax software in Windows.
The sections in this document contain instructions on how to fax from the flatbed scanner or the document feeder, how to schedule a fax to be sent at a later time, how to use speed dials or phone book entries, and how to send a fax using the fax software in Windows.
The steps vary according to the type of control panel.

This video applies only to HP LaserJet Pro multifunction printers (MFPs) that have a touchscreen control panel with a white background. For other printer models, refer to the sections below to find the steps that pertain to your printer.

Fax from the flatbed scanner

Follow these steps if your printer has a touchscreen control panel with a white background.

Place the document face-down on the scanner glass.

From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Fax icon.

Touch Send Now.

Enter the fax number using the touch keypad, and then touch Send.

Follow these steps if your printer has a touchscreen control panel with a black background.

Place the document face-down on the scanner glass.

From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Fax icon
.

Use the keypad to enter the fax number.

Touch the Start Fax button.

The printer prompts you to confirm that you are sending from the scanner glass. Touch the Yes button.

The printer prompts you to load the first page. Touch the OK button.
-
The printer scans the first page and then prompts you to load another page. If the document has multiple pages, place the next page on the scanner glass and then touch the Yes button. Continue this process until you have scanned all the pages.

When you have scanned the last page, touch the No button at the prompt. The printer sends the fax.

Follow these steps if your printer has a touchscreen control panel with a white background.

Insert the original(s) into the document feeder face-up.
CAUTION:To prevent damage to the printer, do not use an original that contains correction tape, correction fluid, paper clips, or staples. Also, do not load photographs, small originals, or fragile originals into the document feeder.

Touch Send Now.

Enter the fax number using the touch keypad, and then touch Send.

Schedule a fax to be sent later
Use the printer control panel to schedule a fax to be automatically sent at a future time within the next 24 hours. When using this option, the printer scans the document into memory and then returns to a Ready state. The printer will fax the document at the specified time.

Load the document:

If you are loading an original on the scanner glass, place it face-down on the left rear corner of the glass.

If you are loading multiple pages in the document feeder, load the pages face-up and adjust the paper guides so they are snug against the paper.

From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe right and then touch the Fax icon.

Touch Send Later.

Swipe the columns on the screen to set the hour and minute to the specific time that you want to send the fax, and then touch Done.

Enter the fax number using the touch keypad, and then touch Send.
The printer scans the document and saves it in the printer's memory until the scheduled time, and then it automatically sends the fax.

Load the document:

If you are loading an original on the scanner glass, place it face-down on the left rear corner of the glass.

If you are loading multiple pages in the document feeder, load the pages face-up and adjust the paper guides so they are snug against the paper.

Touch Send Fax Later.

Set the hour and minute to the specific time that you want to send the fax.

Enter the fax number using the touch keypad, and then touch Send.
The printer scans the document and saves it in the printer's memory until the scheduled time, and then it automatically sends the fax.
Use speed dials and group-dial, or phone book entries
Send a fax to an individual or a group that has already been added to the phone book.

Touch the local phone book, touch the name of the individual or group entry that you want to use, and then touch Select.

Phone book entries must be set up using the Fax Menu prior to using the phone book to send faxes.

Touch the name of the individual or group entry that you want to use.

Send a fax from the software (Windows)
The procedure to send a fax varies according to your specifications. The most common steps for sending a fax are as follows:

Open the HP Printer Assistant:

Windows 11: From the Start menu, click All Apps, click the HP folder, and then select the printer name.

Windows 10: From the Start menu, click the HP folder, and then select the printer name.
-
Windows 8.1: Click the down arrow in the lower left corner of the Start screen, and then select the printer name.
-
Windows 8: Right-click an empty area on the Start screen, click All Apps on the app bar, and then select the printer name.

Windows 7: From the computer desktop, click Start, select All Programs, click HP, click the folder for the printer, and then select the printer name.

In the HP Printer Assistant, click Fax, and then click Send Fax.
The fax software opens.

Enter the fax number of one or more recipients.
-
Place the document on the scanner glass or load it in the document feeder.

Click Add Scan.
-
Click Send Now or Send Fax.
Send a fax from a third-party software program, such as Microsoft Word
Follow these steps to send a fax from a third-party software program.

Open a document in a third-party program.
-
Click the File menu, and then click Print.
-
Select the fax print driver from the print driver drop-down list.
The fax software opens.

Enter the fax number of one or more recipients.
-
Include any pages loaded at the printer. This step is optional.

Click Send Now.
