Samsung ProXpress MFP SL-M4560, SL-M4562, SL-C4060, SL-C4062 - Using a USB Drive Device

This topic explains how to use a USB drive device with the printer.
Understanding the USB screen
To use the USB feature, touch Box > USB from the home screen or Apps.
Documents and images printed, scanned, downloaded and sent from USB can be stored in the Box, see Using Box.
About USB drive device
USB drive devices are available with a variety of memory capacities to give users more room for storing documents, presentations, music and videos, high resolution photographs, or whatever other files users want to store or move.
Users can do the following on the printer using a USB drive device:
  • Scan documents and save them on a USB drive device.
  • Print data stored on a USB drive device.
  • Format the USB drive device.
The printer supports USB drive devices with FAT16/FAT32 and sector size of 512 bytes. Check the USB drive device’s file system from the dealer.
Users must use only an authorized USB drive device with an A plug type connector.

Only use a USB drive device that has obtained compatibility certification; otherwise, the printer might not recognize it. Insert a USB drive device into the USB port on the printer.
  note:
Do not insert the USB drive device to other ports except the ports which is as shown in the following image. If users insert the USB drive device to other ports, the printer shows warning message on the display screen.

  caution:
  • Do not remove the USB drive device while it is in use. The printer warranty does not cover damage caused by a user’s misuse.
  • If the USB drive device has certain features, such as security settings and password settings, the printer might not automatically detect it. For details about these features, see the USB drive device’s User Guide.
Printing from a USB drive device
Users can directly print files stored on a USB drive device. Users can print TIFF, JPEG and PRN files. USB print option supported file types:
  • PRN: Only files created by provided driver with the printer are compatible. PRN files can be created by selecting the Print to file check box when users print a document. The document will be saved as a PRN file, rather than printed on paper. Only PRN files created in this fashion can be printed directly from USB memory device.
  • TIFF: TIFF 6.0 Baseline
  • JPEG: JPEG Baseline
  • PDF: PDF 1.7 and below
  • XPS: XML Paper Specification 1.0
      note:
In the case of 8bit CMYK JPEG files, the job could be cancelled.
To print a document from a USB drive device:
  1. Insert a USB drive device into the USB port on the printer. The printer automatically detects the device and reads data stored on it, see About USB drive device.
    • The printer cannot detect the unformatted USB drive device. Format, then reinsert the USB drive device into the USB port on the printer.
    • If the printer did not detect the USB drive when the printer is in power save mode. Wake up the device and wait until the printer returns to ready state. Then reinsert the USB drive back into the USB port on the front of the printer.
  2. Touch Box > USB from the home screen or Apps.
  3. The printer shows all files in the USB drive device. Select the document to print from the list.
      note:
If the PDF file selected is secured with a password, users must know the password for printing. Enter the password when the printer requires the secure password. If users do not know the password, the print job will be cancelled.
  4. Touch > Print Options.
  5. Select the appropriate option.
    • Copies: Selects the number of copies.
    • Paper Source: Select from which tray the paper is used.
    • Auto fit: Allows users to scale the print job to the selected paper size in the tray regardless of the document size. Select a tray, and press On.
  6. Touch icon to begin printing.
  7. After printing is completed, users can remove the USB drive device from the printer.

Users can delete image files stored on a USB drive one-by-one or all at once by reformatting the device.
