HP Elite x2 1011 Pen - Setting up the HP Elite x2 1011 Pen

This document pertains to the HP Elite x2 1011 Pen.
Use the HP Elite x2 1011 Pen to write or draw on your HP Elite x2 1011 tablet and to interact with the tablet.

There are two versions of the HP Elite x2 1011 Pen, one with Bluetooth and one without. The Bluetooth version requires additional steps to pair the pen and your tablet. Use the steps in the following section to set up your pen. Then, if you have the Bluetooth version of the pen, continue to Pairing the Bluetooth pen with your tablet.

Setting up the pen

Use the following steps to set up the pen.
  1. Turn on your pen by pressing the pen tip against the screen. The pen button functions like the right button on an external mouse.

  2. Hold the pen as if you were writing with a standard pen or pencil.
  3. To store the pen when you are not using it, insert the pen, tip first, into the pen holder on the computer (select products only), use the tablet pen loop to attach it to the tablet, or use the keyboard pen loop to attach it to the keyboard (select products only).
    When you insert the pen in the pen holder, be sure that the end of the pen fits properly in the pen holder.

Pairing the Bluetooth pen with your tablet

Use the following instructions to pair the pen with your tablet.
  1. Turn on your tablet.
  2. Turn on the pen by tapping the tip to any surface.

  3. Press and hold the Bluetooth button for 5 seconds to enable Bluetooth pairing. When the pen is ready to be paired with a device, the Bluetooth light slowly flashes blue.

  4. From the tablet, type bluetooth in the taskbar search box, and then select Bluetooth settings.
  5. Select Devices, select Connected devices, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
The following table defines the actions of the Bluetooth status light.

Slowly flashing
The pen is in pairing mode.
Rapidly flashing blue
The pen has paired successfully.
Blinks blue when the Bluetooth button is clicked
The pen is working normally.
Blinks red when the Bluetooth button is clicked
The pen needs new Bluetooth batteries.
To replace the Bluetooth batteries, use a Phillips screwdriver to open the battery compartment, and then replace the two 319 coin-cell batteries.
