HP Compaq Business Desktop PCs/Workstations - Slowness and Display Problems When Using SketchUp in Windows 7

Issue
Symptoms:
  • Blank screen, Lots of black.
  • Modeling tools do not function.
  • Selection tool does not select things user want.
  • Only seeing a wireframe.
  • Regardless of face style setting.
  • SketchUp worked when it was first open but in later sessions the tools and display does not function.
This error can be due to:
  • 3D applications, such as SketchUp, require abundant system resources. Aside from having a fast CPU and large amounts of RAM, the video card and video card drivers must be 100% OpenGL compliant.
  • The video card must also support OpenGL 1.5. According to Google, SketchUp does not work well on Intel graphics card. Make sure user update video card with the latest drivers from manufacturer.
  • SketchUp does not support hyperthreading or multithreading at this time.
Solution
There are basic requirements, though, so user may want to use the recommended suggestions to improve performance:
  • Software:
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher.
    • SketchUp Pro requires .NET Framework version 2.0.
    • SketchUp will run on 64bit versions of Windows, but it will run as a 32bit application.
  • Recommended hardware
    • 2 GHz or higher processor.
    • 2GB or higher RAM.
    • 500MB of available hard-disk space.
    • 3D class Video Card with 512MB of memory or higher. Please ensure that the video card driver supports OpenGL version 1.5 or higher and up to date.
    • 3 button, scroll-wheel mouse.
    • Some SketchUp features require an active internet connection.
    • SketchUp does not support hyperthreading or multithreading at this time.
To set Multi-Processor and Hyper-Threading technology to Disabled, follow the steps given below:
  1. Start PC and press F10.
  2. Choose Advanced Menu /Device Options.
  3. Set Multi-Processor to Disabled.
  4. Set Hyperthreading to Disabled.
  5. Press F10.
  6. Choose File menu, Save Changes and Exit.
