HP Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP Product Series - Solve Copy Quality Problems

Try these few simple steps first:
  • Use the flatbed scanner rather than the document feeder.
  • Use high-quality originals.
  • When the document feeder is used, load the original document into the feeder correctly, using the paper guides, to avoid unclear or skewed images.
If the solutions below do not fix the problem, click here to see document HP Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP Product Series - Solving Print Quality Problems at h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?&objectID=c02697711 for additional solutions.
Check the scanner glass for dirt or smudges
Follow these steps if the printout has streaks, unwanted lines, black dots, poor print quality or unclear text.
  1. Use the power switch to turn off the product, and then unplug the power cord from the electrical socket.
  2. Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a sponge that has been moistened with nonabrasive glass cleaner, and clean the following:
    • the white plastic backing on the underside of the scanner lid
    • both the large and small scanner glass panes, if multiple glass panes exist
  3. To prevent spotting, dry the glass and white plastic with a chamois or cellulose sponge.
  4. Plug in the product, and then use the power switch to turn on the product.
  caution:
Do not use abrasives, acetone, benzene, ammonia, ethyl alcohol, or carbon tetrachloride on any part of the product; these can damage the product. Do not place liquids directly on the glass. They might seep under it and damage the product.
  note:
In certain areas of California, air pollution control regulations restrict the use of liquid Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) as a cleaning agent. In those areas of California, please disregard the previous recommendations and use a dry, lint-free cloth. The cloth may be moistened with water if desired.
Check the paper settings
Follow these steps if the printout has smears, fuzzy or dark print, curled paper, toner scatter, loose toner, or dropouts.
Check the paper size and type of paper
  1. On the printer’s control panel, press the Setup button.
  2. Press the down arrow () to highlight System Setup, and then press OK.
  3. Press the down arrow () to highlight Paper Setup, and then press OK.
  4. Press the down arrow () to highlight Def. Paper Type, and then press OK.
  5. Press the down arrow () to select a paper type, and then press OK.
  • If you are using special paper, such as glossy, select the appropriate paper type.
  • If you are using light paper select a lighter weight paper type.
  • If you are using heavier paper select a heavier weight paper type.
  • If the printout is curled or wavy, select a lighter weight paper type.
  • If the printout has areas of fuzzy or dark print, toner scatter, or loose toner select a heavier weight paper type.
Check image adjustment settings
Adjust these additional settings to improve copy quality.
  1. On the printer’s control panel, press the Setup button.
  2. Select Copy Setup, and then press OK.
  3. Press down arrow () to highlight Advanced, and then press OK.
  4. Adjust the Color Copy, Lightness, Contrast, Sharpen, and Background Removal, and then press OK.
Optimize for text or pictures

  1. On the printer’s control panel, press the Setup button.
  2. Select Copy Setup, and then press OK.
  3. Select Default Optimize, and then press OK.
  4. Use the arrow buttons to scroll through the options, and then press OK.
Edge-to-edge copying
The product cannot print fully edge-to-edge. Use supported media sizes.
Considerations for copying documents with cropped edges:
  • When the original is smaller than the output size, move the original away from the corner indicated by the icon on the scanner. Recopy in this position.
  • When the original is the size of the desired output, reduce the image so the copy is not cropped.
Clean the pick-up rollers and separation pad in the document feeder
Follow these steps if the printout has toner smudges or skewed print.
  1. Turn off the product and unplug the power cord.
  2. Open the document feeder cover.

  3. Rotate the assembly upward. Wipe it clean and rotate the rollers until the assembly is clean.
