HP TouchSmart 300 Series Desktop PC - Removing a Stuck Disc

This document applies to HP TouchSmart 300 series desktop computers.
This document contains information for manually removing a stuck CD or DVD. Discs might have to be manually ejected if the drive has lost power, a disc is inserted incorrectly, a damaged or scratched disc is used, the drive fails, or the computer stops responding.
Complete the following steps, in order, until the disc is ejected.
  caution:
This product contains components that are easily damaged by ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (like a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap that is connected to a grounded surface (like the metal frame of the computer).
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. If the keyboard has a CD/DVD Eject key, press it.
  3. In Windows 7, click Start, and then click Computer.
  4. Right-click the icon for the CD or DVD drive, and then click Eject.

  5. Restart the computer and press the Eject button on the faceplate of the disc drive when the first screen appears (before Windows launches). If the disc ejects using this method, but does not open in Windows, another software program is controlling the CD driver. Try shutting down or configuring any software programs that create discs or monitor the disc drive.
