HP Compaq nc4010 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Memory Expansion Board

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the memory expansion board for the HP Compaq nc4010 Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required
  • Small, flat-bladed screwdriver or a flat-bladed alignment tool
  • Small, Phillips-head (P0 and P1) screwdriver

The replacement part number will vary depending on the memory expansion board that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Memory expansion board removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Loosen the captive P0 Phillips-head screw that secures the memory expansion cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  3. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the inside edge of the memory expansion cover and remove it.
  4. Push both arms outward simultaneously to release the memory expansion board to the spring tension position.
  5. Grasp the memory expansion board by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  6. Place the memory expansion board in a static dissipative bag.
Memory expansion board replacement
  1. Remove the memory expansion board from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Locate the alignment slot and align it to the empty board receptacle.
  3. Grasp the memory expansion board by the edges and push gently to replace it.
  4. Press the memory expansion board down to latch the arms.
  5. Toe the memory expansion cover into the enclosure.
  6. Tighten the captive P0 Phillips-head screw.
