HP Deskjet 6940 and 6980 Series Printers - Aligning the Cartridges in Windows XP and Vista

Introduction

Aligning the cartridges in your product helps you get the best possible printing performance. You might need to align the cartridges if text does not line up on the printed page. The product automatically aligns the cartridges after you install a new cartridge.

Aligning the cartridges

  1. Load plain white, U.S. letter or A4 size paper in the tray.
  2. Follow one of these steps to open the product Toolbox:
    • Windows XP: Click Start, click Run, type control printers in the Open: text box, and then press the Enter key.
    • Windows Vista: On the task bar, click the Windows icon (), type printers in the Open: text box, and then press the Enter key.
    The Printers window opens.
  3. Right-click the icon for your product, and then click Printing Preferences. The product Toolbox opens.
  4. Click the Services tab and then click Service this Device.
  5. Click Align the Print Cartridges.
  6. Click Align, and then follow the on-screen instructions to align the cartridges.
