HP Designjet Ultra Low End Printers - Unable to Detect Printer on a Network During Software Installation

Issue

When installing the printer driver, the CD installation may fail with the following message:
Unable to detect the printer on the network
This document provides suggestions that help resolve the issue.
This document is applicable to driver installation for Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Solution

Solution 1:
  1. Disable firewalls and antivirus software temporarily until the printer installation is complete.
  2. Begin the driver installation with the CD.
    If the installation still fails to proceed, go to Solution 2.
Solution 2:
  1. Download the PCL3 or raster driver.
    1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer (or any browser you use).
    2. Type your product name (for example, HP Designjet 130) in the Search box in the top right corner. Click the double arrow button next to the Search box.
    3. Under Select a product, click the exact product if there are multiple products listed.
    4. Under Product quick links, click Software & driver downloads under the picture of the product on the web page.
    5. Select the operating system of the computer from the list (for example, Microsoft Windows XP).
    6. On the Download drivers and software page, under DRIVER, click the Download button to choose any of the following:
      • PCL3GUI Driver
      • Raster Driver
      • INF for system administrators
      • HPGL/2 and Raster driver for Windows AutoCAD 2000- AutoCAD 2005
      This brings up a pop- up window.
    7. Click Save and save the file on your desktop.
  2. Extract the contents to a new folder on the desktop.
    1. Create a new folder on the desktop, and name it HP Designjet xxx, where xxx stands for the product number.
    2. Double-click and run the downloaded driver file on the desktop.
    3. This opens the Winzip self extractor window. Click Browse, select Desktop, select the new folder named HP Designjet xxx, and click OK.
    4. Click Unzip and click OK. Close all the windows.
  3. Install the driver using the Add Printer Wizard.
    1. Click Start, Control Panel and Printers and Faxes or Printers (depending on the operating system).
    2. Click Add Printer. This opens the Add Printer Wizard.
    3. Choose local printer and then choose:
      • Use an existing port, if there is already a port with the printer's IP address.
        or
      • Create a new port and type the printer's IP address or host name. Complete the wizard.
    4. In the next screen, click Have Disk in the bottom right corner.
    5. Click Browse in the Install from disk window.
    6. Select Desktop, open the newly created folder named HP Designjet xxx, and select the file with the extension, .inf. Click Open.
    7. Click OK in the Install from Disk window. In the wizard, select the appropriate printer model. Click Next.
      Depending on the needs, one can share the printer, make the printer as default printer and or print a test page.
    8. Finish the wizard.
