HP iPAQ 900 Business Messenger Series - Locking and Unlocking the Device

You can protect your HP iPAQ 900 Business Messenger against unwanted access and accidental usage. You can:
  • Enable the HP iPAQ Keyguard feature to lock the keypad and the touch screen when in standby mode.
  • Lock the device from the Today screen without setting a password.
  • Protect your device with a password.
Using the HP iPAQ Keyguard feature
The Keyguard feature deactivates the touch screen and the keypad to prevent accidental activation of the device or any of its functions. When the device is in the standby mode, the keyguard is automatically activated.
Enabling the Keyguard feature
  1. Tap Start > Settings > Personal > Buttons > Lock.
  2. Select the Enable Keyguard check box.

  3. Tap ok.
  note:
The Disable all buttons except power and end buttons check box also prevents accidental activation when the device enters the standby mode.
  note:
The buttons on the device do not function and the touch screen is inactive until you complete the sequence to unlock the keys. To unlock, follow the unlock sequence as described on the touch screen.
Disabling the Keyguard feature
  1. Tap Start > Settings > Personal > Buttons > Lock.
  2. Clear the Enable Keyguard check box.

  3. Tap ok.
  note:
When you receive a call, the Keyguard remains active and allows you to answer the call. To dial an emergency number when the Keyguard is active, type the emergency number using the keyboard and press the (Answer/Send) key.
Using the device lock feature
You can quickly lock and unlock your device from the Today screen without setting a password to prevent accidental key press while traveling.
Locking the device
  1. Tap Start > Settings > Personal > Today > Items.
  2. Make sure the Device Lock check box is selected.

  3. Tap ok.
  4. On the Today screen, tap Device unlocked.

Unlocking the device
  1. Tap Unlock at the bottom-left corner of the screen or press the left softkey.

  2. Tap Unlock at the center-right corner of the screen.

      note:
    If you decide to keep the device locked, tap Cancel or press the left softkey.
Protecting the device with a password
Every time you turn the device on, you are prompted to type the password to unlock it.
Enabling password protection
  1. Tap Start > Settings > Personal > Lock.
  2. Select the Prompt if device unused for check box.

  3. Select the amount of time that the device must remain unused before you are prompted to type the password.
  4. In the Password type list, select the type of password.

  5. Type your password in the Password and Confirm text boxes.
  6. Tap Hint and then type a phrase or words to help you remember your password.
      note:
    Make sure that your hint does not allow others to guess your password. The hint displays after typing a wrong password five times continuously.
  7. Tap ok.
  8. When prompted, tap Yes. The next time the device is unused for the specified amount of time, you will be prompted to type your password.
      note:
    Use the same steps as above to reset your password.
Disabling password protection
  1. Tap Start > Settings > Personal > Lock.
  2. Type your password and then tap Unlock.
  3. Clear the Prompt if device unused for check box.
  4. Tap ok.
  5. Tap Yes.
