Step 1: Check your paper

Make sure you printed on fresh, unwrinkled paper. If you are sure you did, go to the next step.

Step 2: Run the clean print cartridges utility

note:
Do not clean the printhead unnecessarily, as this wastes ink and shortens the life of the ink nozzles on the printhead.
  1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to the computer.
  2. Load letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the main tray.
  3. If you are using a Windows computer:
    1. From the Windows Start menu, select HP , and then select HP Solution Center .
    2. Click Settings . Select Print Settings , and then Printer Toolbox .
    3. Click Clean the Printheads and follow the onscreen instructions.
If you are using a Macintosh:
    1. Click HP Device Manager in the Dock.
    2. From the Information and Settings pop-up menu, choose Maintain Printer.

    4. In the Configuration Settings area of the HP Printer Utility window, click Clean , and then click Clean again in the right section of the window.
If print quality still seems poor after you clean the printhead, try aligning the printer.
