  • Cleaning Page

Configuring the Printer
Follow these steps to configure the product.
  1. Access the product Properties dialog box.
    • Windows XP: Click Start, click Printer and Faxes, right-click HP LaserJet P1xxx series, and then click Properties.
    • Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon (), click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, click Printer, right-click HP LaserJet P1xxx series, and then click Properties.
    • Windows 2000: Click Start, click Printer and Faxes, right-click HP LaserJet P1xxx series, and then click Preferences.
  2. Click the Configure tab.
  3. Review the settings, make any adjustments or requests, and then click OK.
The following table describes the features available on the Configure tab.
    Quick Sets:
Allows you to save the current driver settings for reuse later. All HP-owned tabs in the driver contain Quick Sets as an option.
    Jam Recovery:
Reprints the last job sent to the product when selected to On. Jam Recovery creates additional demands on the product's memory, which can cause slower performance when printing graphics and images. Jam Recovery in the print driver defaults to Off to optimize performance.
    Status Messages:
Alerts the user when intervention is needed with the product. These messages indicate issues such as an empty paper tray, a jam in the product, or the steps required to duplex manually. The Status Messages setting defaults to On.
      note:
If you set the Status Messages feature to Off, some product features might not be available. Additionally, prompts for manual printing tasks will not display, causing the product to appear unresponsive during the manual print job. Status Messages On is the preferred operating mode.
    Cleaning Page:
Maintains the product and enhances print quality. Use the Cleaning Page tool to remove excess paper or toner particles that can accumulate on the fuser assembly and rollers. This tool is useful when you install a new print cartridge or if you experience toner specks or dots on the printouts. Cleaning the paper path might also extend the life of the product.
      note:
The cleaning process takes approximately two minutes. The cleaning page stops periodically during the cleaning process. Do not turn the product off until the cleaning process finishes. It might be necessary to repeat the cleaning process several times to clean the product thoroughly.
    Print Density:
Defines the lightness or darkness of the product output. The density setting ranges from 1 (lightest) to 5 (darkest). The density defaults to 3.
    Courier Font Type:
Indicates whether to print Courier fonts as TrueType (regular) or Bitmap (dark). The product defaults to Regular. The following options are available:
    • Regular: Select this option to print Courier fonts as TrueType.
    • Dark: Select this option to print Courier fonts as Bitmap.
