HP Notebook PCs - 'Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Cannot be Stopped' Error Message

Description

You may experience an error message when quickly connecting the AC adapter to a notebook which has just been removed from a docking station on certain notebook models using the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet adapter.
After you undock your HP notebook with LAN Power Save mode enabled and immediately reconnect the AC adapter, the following error message may be displayed:
Problem Ejecting Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet: The device "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet" cannot be stopped because of an unknown error. Since this device is still being used, do not remove it.

Solution

Download and install the latest BIOS for your notebook PC. The current upgrades as of this writing are linked below.
Additionally, ensure that LAN Power Save is disabled in your system BIOS:
  1. Tap F10 while powering on the notebook PC to enter the system BIOS.
  2. Use the arrow keys to navigate to Advanced > Device Options > LAN Power Save.
  3. Set LAN Power Save to Disable, then Save and Exit.
