Use the following information to setup, install, and configure the embedded Wireless Direct and/or NFC printing options on an HP LaserJet Enterprise or HP PageWide Enterprise printer.
To ensure printer compatibility and maintain regulatory compliance, first update the printer firmware.
Make sure the Jetdirect accessory is disconnected from the printer.
Make sure the printer has firmware version 3.6 or newer installed. If not, continue to the next step.
Go to www.hp.com/go/FutureSmart, and then click Upgrade now.
Find the printer listed in the table, and then click the link in the Link to Firmware column.
Expand the Firmware section, locate the latest FutureSmart Bundle version, and then click Download.

Wireless Direct printing is typically disabled by default.
There are two methods available for enabling Wireless Direct: 1) using the printer control panel, or 2) using the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS).
Choose one of the methods below and then follow the steps provided.
There are additional (optional) settings that can be configured using the Embedded Web Server (EWS). The optional settings include enabling Near-Field Communication (NFC), changing the Wireless Direct printer name (SSID), and configuring security.
To access the Embedded Web Server (EWS), you must have the printer's LAN IP address. Locate the IP address on the printer control panel using the following steps.
The steps vary according to the type of control panel.
FutureSmart 3 control panels
FutureSmart 4 or 5 control panels
FutureSmart 3: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, press or touch the Wireless icon to display the IP address or host name.
FutureSmart 4 or 5: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, press or touch the Information icon , and then select the Wireless icon
to display the IP address or host name.

NFC printing is disabled by default. To enable NFC on the printer, configure the setting in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) using the steps below.

The Wireless Direct printer name (SSID) is used to identify your printer when connecting from a Wi-Fi compatible device.

To configure security, you must select the Wireless Direct connection method. Follow these steps to configure the connection method using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
