There are a few reasons why your HP Instant Ink bill may not be exactly what you expected.
-
Your monthly bill is based entirely on the number of pages you print, not the number of ink or toner cartridges you receive.
-
You may have been charged for additional pages if you printed more than your plan amount and any rollovers you may have had.
-
If you canceled your account, you are still charged at the end of your final billing cycle. After this final charge, you are not charged again.
-
You cannot change your billing date The date of your billing cycle is established when you install your first HP Instant Ink cartridge, or at printer setup if you enroll with a free trial offer.
-
If you had a promotional code for a certain number of free months, or enrolled with a free trial, regular billing begins after that period. During your free months you will be billed for any additional pages printed over your plan amount.

-
If you upgrade, you may choose whether the change is applied immediately or in the next billing cycle.
-
If you downgrade, your plan automatically changes on the first day of the next billing cycle. Your rollover maximum changes with your new plan, so you may lose accumulated rollover pages in excess of your new plan maximum.

About rollover pages
Rollover pages allow unused pages in a month to be placed in a rollover account and then applied to pages in excess of your monthly allowance.
-
The rollover account balance is limited to a maximum that depends on your monthly service plan pages.
-
If you downgrade your plan, you get a new rollover maximum. You lose any rollover pages in excess of what your new plan allows.
-
To see how many rollover pages you have available:
-
Sign in to your HP Instant Ink account.
-
Click Instant Ink in the left menu if that option appears. Otherwise, click Home.
-
Look for rollover pages in the Status area.
-
About page counts
Sometimes the HP Instant Ink page count looks different from what you expect.
-
Page counts are updated about once a day, not immediately.
-
If your printer is disconnected for a while, the page counts are recorded for the date when you reconnect, not the date you printed.
-
Only pages printed using Instant Ink ink or toner cartridges are recorded.
-
If you signed up with the Instant Ink-Ready or Instant Toner-Ready cartridges that came with your printer, the service and page counting start immediately.
-
Any page that your printer placed any amount of ink or toner on counts as a printed page. If your printer prints on both sides of a page, it counts as two pages.
-
To see your print history:
-
Sign in to your HP Instant Ink account.
-
Click Instant Ink in the left menu if that option is present.
-
Click Print History.
-
About additional pages
Additional pages are the pages printed over your monthly plan pages and rollover pages.
-
If you print over the sum of your monthly plan pages and accrued rollover pages, you are charged for blocks of additional pages. For example, if you are on the 50 page plan, have 10 rollover pages, and then print between 61 and 70 pages, you are billed for one additional page block.
-
Unused pages from additional page blocks roll over so you can use them whenever you need to.
-
If you’re consistently paying for additional pages, consider upgrading your plan.
-
To see the price of additional pages for your plan:
-
Sign in to your HP Instant Ink account.
-
Click Instant Ink in the left menu if that option is present.
-
Click Print History.
-
Look for the cost for each additional block of pages for your plan under Plan details.
-
Move your service to another country/region
Instant Ink Accounts are linked to the country/region of your HP account. If you want to change the country/region for a printer in Instant Ink, add the printer to a different HP account that is in the desired country/region.
If you enroll the printer in an Instant Ink account for a different country/region, cancel the original Instant Ink account to prevent continued billing from that account. Enrolling the printer in a new account does not automatically delete the old account.
Cancel your account
Before you cancel, consider other plan options and be aware of what happens after cancellation.
HP Instant Ink support has solutions for service and technical issues, and can explain other plan options that may better fit your needs. Please go to HP Instant Ink support for assistance before you cancel.
If you cancel:
-
You can keep printing with Instant Ink cartridges until the end of your current billing cycle.
-
At the end of the current billing cycle, you must replace the Instant Ink cartridges with traditional cartridges from your favorite retailer in order to keep printing.
-
Because Instant Ink bills at the end of each billing cycle you still receive your final monthly charge, if applicable to your account.

Recycle your cartridges
HP Instant Ink makes it easy to recycle your cartridges.
HP Instant Ink or toner cartridges are the property of HP and must be returned when empty, or when your service is canceled.
-
Ink cartridges: Postage-paid ink cartridge recycling envelopes are included with most shipments. To maximize environmental benefits, wait until you have three to eight empty ink cartridges, fill the envelope, and then send them back together. If you do not have a postage-paid recycling envelope, either wait for the next shipment or order an extra envelope.
-
Toner cartridges: Prepaid return address labels for Toner recycling are provided with most shipments. Use the packaging the replacement toner came in to return toner being recycled, or use your own packaging with the supplied label.
-
To order another envelope or prepaid return address label:
-
Sign in to your HP Instant Ink account
-
Look for HP Smart at the top left of your account page:
-
If you see HP Smart on your account page, click Instant Ink > Plan Overview in the left side menu, then click Order a Cartridge Recycling Envelope at the bottom of the Ink Status area.
-
If you do not see HP Smart on your account page, click Order a Cartridge Recycling Envelope in the Help Center area.
