Learn about a pop-up message regarding HP FutureSmart firmware on newly released printers.

The message Critical Security Update - Upgrade Firmware Now displays on the control panel of a newly released HP Enterprise or HP Managed printer running HP FutureSmart 5.0.

'Critical Security Update - Upgrade Firmware Now' message

The following description displays in the message:

A critical firmware update is available. Upgrade now by visiting www.hp.com/support/<printer_model> and downloading the firmware update from the website. Use a USB flash driver or the product EWS to install the new firmware.

What it means

The message displays on the control panel of newly released printers to encourage customers to update the printer firmware to ensure they have the latest security updates available in HP FutureSmart 5.1.

After the firmware is updated, the control panel message will no longer display.

This message is integrated into the current device firmware HP FutureSmart version 5.0 and will begin to display starting Feb 5, 2021 when the user either touches the control panel to wake the printer from sleep mode, or after the printer is restarted.

What do I do?

To close the message, touch OK and update the firmware at your earliest convenience.

If the message displays longer than 30 seconds, the message will move to the control panel Message Center. To clear the message from the Message Center, open the message and select OK and then update the firmware at your earliest convenience.
