HP DeskJet 2600 printers - Blinking lights

Find the blinking lights pattern you are experiencing for steps to resolve the issue.

Wireless light is blinking and the Wireless icons are on or blinking

This condition occurs when the wireless signal is on, but the printer cannot connect to the network.

Perform the following tasks in the order given. Use the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.

Wait for the printer to establish a connection

The Wireless light blinks when the printer is attempting to connect to the wireless router or access point. Wait a few minutes, and then check the light again.

Troubleshoot the wireless printer connection

Check network issues and setup requirements if the printer is not found during software installs or when wireless print jobs fail.

Poor network connection: Move the printer and computer or mobile device closer to the wireless router, and then check if the signal quality improved. Try opening a website to see if the internet connection is working properly. If Wi-Fi is slow or intermittent, restart the router by disconnecting the power cord, waiting 15 seconds, and then reconnecting the cord.
Printer is off or in sleep mode: Touch the control panel or press the Power button to wake the printer and put it in a ready state. Sometimes the printer status might display Offline when it is actually ready.
Check the printer connection status: Make sure the wireless signal is on, and the printer is connected to the same network as your computer or mobile device. If your printer has a light next to a Wireless icon or button , make sure the light is on. If it is off or blinks, the printer is disconnected from the network.
Reconnect the printer to the network: Place the printer within range of the Wi-Fi router signal, and then connect it to the network.
- Printers with a touchscreen control panel: Open the Setup, Network, or Wireless settings menu, select Wireless Setup Wizard, and then follow the instructions to select the network name and enter the password.
- Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press and hold the Wireless button for five seconds or until the wireless light starts to flash. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on the router until the connection process begins. The printer Wireless light stops flashing when the connection completes.
- HP Deskjet 6000 and 6400, ENVY 6000 and 6400, and Tango printers: Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Power button on the back of the printer for five seconds until the blue bar flashes. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the router until the connection process begins. The blue bar stops flashing when the connection completes.
Restart devices: Restart the printer and the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.
Print a Wireless Test Report: Search the HP Customer Support website for your printer model, and then search for self test page to find the document on how to print and evaluate the report.
Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.
Wireless isolation could be causing your printer to appear offline. Check with your router manufacturer for more information.

Connect the printer to your network

Reset the wireless settings on the printer, and then connect to the local Wi-Fi network.

One or both empty ink level icons blink, the Ink Alert light is on, and the Resume light and Error icon blink

This condition occurs when at least one ink cartridge is incompatible or the ink levels are low.

Light pattern for low ink levels or incompatible cartridges

Make sure your ink cartridges are compatible with your printer and there is adequate ink in the cartridges. Go to HP inkjet printers - Ink cartridge errors for more information.

Make sure your ink cartridges are compatible with your printer and there is adequate ink in the cartridges. Go to HP inkjet printers - Ink cartridge errors for more information.

'E2' or 'E1' and the Resume light blink

An E1 or E2 error indicates that the paper size setting does not match the paper size that is loaded.

Load the correct paper size

Remove all paper from the input tray, and then load the correct paper size.

Remove any paper from the input tray.
Slide the paper width guide as far as possible to the left.
Load a stack of the correct paper size into the input tray.
Slide the paper width guide to the right until it rests against the edge of the paper.
Lower the output tray, and then pull out the output tray extender.

Change the paper size in the print settings

Change the paper size in the Windows or Mac operating system.

Check the paper size and source settings (Windows)

Check the paper size and source settings for your print job in Windows.

In the program you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print.
Make sure your printer is selected, and then open the Properties dialog box.

Depending on the software program, the button might be Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
- For most HP printers, click the Paper/Quality tab, and then continue with these steps.
- For HP Laser printers, click the Paper tab, click the Original Size drop-down, and then make sure the paper size matches the type of paper loaded into the printer. Click the Output Size drop-down, select Same as Original Size, and then click OK.
Click Paper Source, and then confirm the correct paper tray is selected.
Click Advanced, and then click the Paper Size drop-down.
Make sure the paper size matches the type of paper loaded into the printer.

Note:
If the exact paper size is missing from the list, select the size closest to the paper loaded into the tray.
Click OK.

Check the paper size and source settings (Mac)

Check the correct paper size and source settings in macOS.

Open the item you want to print, and then open the print job settings.
- Documents and photos: Click the Spotlight icon to search for and open Preview. Click File > Open to open the item, and then click File > Print.
- Webpages: Open the page you want to print, and then click File > Print.
Select your printer, and then click Show Details if the button displays.
Select Paper Type/Quality or Media & Quality, and then click Feed From or Source to select the tray the paper is loaded in.
Select the paper you are using from the Paper Size menu.

If the Paper Size menu is not listed, click File > Page Setup to access the menu.

Note:
If the exact paper size is not in the list, select the size closest to the paper you are printing on.
Click Print.

'E3,' Resume light, and Ink Alert light are blinking

An E3 error indicates a carriage jam.

Find and clear any jams or obstructions, or reset the printer if nothing is located. Go to HP Printers - Carriage jam or E3 error for more information.

'E4' and the Resume light blink

An E4 error indicates a paper jam.

Find and clear the printer of any jammed paper, or reset the printer if the printer has no jammed paper. For detailed troubleshooting, go to An 'E4' Error Displays (Paper Jam).

'E5' and all lights on the control panel blink

An E5 error occurs when the scanner is not functioning and you try to copy using the printer control panel.

Note:

You can still print while this error displays.

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.
Press the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the power source.
Wait 60 seconds.
Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Service the printer

Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.

Go to Contact HP Customer Support to schedule a product repair or replacement. If you are in Asia Pacific, you will be directed to a local service center in your area.

'E6' error displays

An E6 error occurs when the printer is in an error state.

All the lights are off and the printer does not respond

This condition occurs when the printer is turned off or there is an issue with the power supply.

Make sure the printer has power

Check the power cord and wall outlet to make sure the printer is receiving power.

Perform the following tasks in the order given. Use the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.

Make sure the power cord is securely connected to the printer and wall outlet or power strip.
Unplug the power cord from any power strips, surge protectors, or extension cords, and then plug it directly into the wall outlet.
Unplug the power cord from the outlet, and then plug another appliance into the electrical outlet to make sure the outlet works.
If you have a second printer power cord that is compatible with your model, connect the cord to the printer and wall outlet to make sure the cord works properly.

Service the printer

Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.
