HP LaserJet Enterprise MFP - "The network folder path specified does not exist." error message displays when scanning using firmware FutureSmart version from 4.8.1 to 4.9.1

Issue

An error message "The network folder path specified does not exist." displays on the control panel of an HP LaserJet Enterprise Multifunction Printer (MFP) in the following conditions:
  • when a Multifunction Printer is running a firmware FutureSmart Bundle version from 4.8.1 to 4.9.1,
  • when using the Scan to Network Folder function,
  • when the folder path in the Quick Sets specifies a "personal shared folder" or “private folder”, and
  • when the DNS services are not running on the network (or, DNS responds “no such name” for a DNS host record (simple “A” record) query of the hostname).
note:
A “private folder” is a folder being shared from a network computer that is not joined to a domain. Usually an IP address is used in the folder path (\\15.86.190.1\share2, for example), or it can include a simple hostname (\\filestore\share2, for example).
A hostname that includes a domain name (i.e. a “fully qualified” domain name (FQDN)) does not qualify as a private folder. For example, \\filestore.acme.com\share2 would indicate a host called “filestore” that is a member of the domain “acme.com”. As the hostname is on a domain-joined computer, it does not qualify as a “private folder”.

Solution

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
  1. Update the printer firmware to FutureSmart Bundle version 4.10 or newer.
    1. Go to HP Support.
    2. Scroll down to the ""Identify your product" section, type your printer model in the search text box, and then press Enter on the keyboard.
    3. On the product page, select Software, Drivers and Firmware from the left pane.
    4. Click the plus (+) sign on the Firmware section to download the latest firmware version.
For more information to update the firmware, go to the document Update the firmware.
  2. If the issue persists, ensure that the network folder has the correct configuration and the "Scan to Network folder" feature is configured correctly.
Consider validating the following settings and connections:
    • Make sure that the folder path is correct.
    • Make sure that the folder is shared.
    • Make sure that the user name and password for the shared folder are correct.
    • Make sure that the user has the read, write, and create permissions for the folder.
    • Make sure that there are no firewalls, routers, or other network appliances which could block SMB traffic between the HP MFP and the computer hosting the shared folder.
For instructions to ensure that the folder settings are configured correctly for a scanned document, go to the following document Set up Scan to Network Folder .
