HP LaserJet Enterprise M750 - Replace the SSHD

Before beginning
  • Use the table below to identify the correct kit part number for the product, and then go to www.hp.com/buy/parts to order the kit.

Required tools
  • No special tools are required to install this part.
  caution:
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, place the product on an ESD mat (if available), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface. If an ESD workstation or mat is not available, ground yourself by touching the sheet-metal chassis before touching an ESD-sensitive part.
Step 1 - Remove the Formatter
  1. Do the following:
    1. Turn off the product.
    2. Disconnect the power cable.
    3. Disconnect all cables and accessories attached to the formatter.
      warning:
    To avoid damage to the product, turn the product off, wait five seconds, and then remove the power cord before attempting to service the product.
  2. Loosen the two thumbscrews on the formatter.
  3. Pull the formatter out of the product.
Step 2 - Remove the SSHD
  caution:
ESD-sensitive part.
  1. Release the hard drive lock.
  2. Remove the lock from the PCA.
  3. Disconnect the solid-state module from the formatter PCA, and then remove it.
Step 3 - Unpack the Replacement SSHD
  caution:
ESD-sensitive part.
Unpack the replacement SSHD from the packaging.
  note:
HP recommends responsible disposal of the defective SSHD.
Step 4 - Install the Replacement SSHD
  caution:
ESD-sensitive part.
  1. Carefully insert the SSHD at an angle into the holder on the formatter.
  2. Replace the lock on the PCA.
  3. Rotate the hard drive lock clockwise to secure the SSHD in place.
Step 5 - Reinstall the Formatter
  caution:
ESD-sensitive part.
  1. Align the formatter with the guides at the top and bottom of the formatter cage and push the formatter into the slot until it is fully seated.
  2. Finger-tighten the two thumbscrews.
  3. Do the following:
    1. Connect the power cable.
    2. Turn on the product.
Step 6 - Reinstall the Firmware
  1. Go to www.hp.com/go/colorljM750_firmware and follow the onscreen steps to download the most recent firmware upgrade files for the product.
  2. Copy the firmware upgrade file to the root directory of a USB storage accessory. The firmware upgrade file has a .bdl extension.
  3. Insert the USB storage accessory into the USB port on the bottom edge of the control panel.
  4. Turn the product on. The following message appears: Error: 99.09.63 Incorrect Disk. Press the OK button to continue.
  5. Wait for the Pre-Boot menu to appear on the control-panel display, and then scroll to 3 Administrator. Press the OK button to select it.
  6. Scroll to 6 Manage Disk. Press the OK button to select it.
  7. The message Proceed with Requested Action appears. Press the OK button to select it.
  8. Press the back button to return to the Pre-Boot menu home screen.
  9. Scroll to 3 Administrator. Press the OK button to select it.
  10. Scroll to 1 Download. Press the OK button to select it.
  11. Scroll to 3 USB Thumbdrive. Press the OK button to select it.
  12. Several .bdl files might be listed. Scroll to the firmware upgrade file that you downloaded in step 15. Press the OK button to select it.
      note:
    If no .bdl files are listed, try saving the file to a different USB storage accessory.
  13. Wait while the file transfers. When the transfer is complete, the message Complete appears on the screen.
  14. Turn the product off, remove the USB storage accessory, and then turn the product on. Wait for several minutes while the product initializes.
    • If the upgrade is unsuccessful, try sending the firmware upgrade file again.
    • If the upgrade fails again, contact HP support at www.hp.com/support/colorljM750
