DESCRIPTION
After using the Group Policy Editor to configure the operating system image, Microsoft Windows 7 does not recognize the optical disc drive (ODD) .

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, do the following:
  1. Click Start, type gpedit.msc and select Group Policy Editor from the search results list.
  2. Select Computer Configuration. DO NOT select User Configuration. Doing so may result in the issue described in this document.
  3. Select Administrative Templates.
  4. Select System.
  5. Select Removable Storage Access.
  6. On the right side, click the CD and DVD: Deny Write Access option, then select Enabled.
