This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.

HP Photosmart Wireless Printers - Setting Up the Printer Hardware
This document includes the following steps to set up the product:

Unpack the All-in-One

Check the contents of the box

Connect the power cord and adapter

Turn on the product

Select the language/region

Align the cartridges
Setting up the All-in-One
Follow these steps in the order presented to set up the product.
Step one: Unpack the All-in-One

Remove all packing tape from outside the product, and then remove the protective film from the control panel display.Figure : Remove outside packing tape and protective film

The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.
Step three: Connect the power cord and adapter
Important: Do not connect the USB (
) unless prompted during software installation.
Follow these steps to connect power to the product.

Connect the power adapter to the back of the product.

Connect the power cord to the power adapter.
-
Connect the other end of the power cord to an alternating current (AC) power outlet.

Step four: Turn on the product
Press the Power button (
) to turn on the
product.

Step five: Select the language and the country/region
Follow the instructions on the control panel display to set the default language and country/region for the product.

When the control panel displays the Language menu, touch the right arrow (
) to select the desired language, and then touch OK.

Touch the right arrow (
) to select Yes to confirm the selection.
note:
If the language selection is not correct, select No, and then select another language. -
In the Set Country/Region menu, touch the right arrow (
) to select the desired country/region, and then touch OK.

Touch the right arrow (
) to select Yes to confirm the selection.
Step six: Install the printhead assembly
The product should arrive with the printhead assembly already installed. However, if the printhead assembly requires installation, follow these steps.
-
Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the center of the product. Wait until the carriage becomes idle and silent before continuing.Figure : Open the cartridge door

Lift the latch handle on the carriage until it stops.Figure : Lift the latch handle

Remove the printhead from its packaging.Figure : Remove printhead packaging
caution:
Do not touch the copper-colored contacts. Do not let the contacts touch any surface. Do not scratch the contacts while inserting the cartridges. -
Hold the printhead upright with the color-coded icons facing up.

Step seven: Install the cartridges
Follow these steps to install the cartridges.
caution:
When you first setup the product you must install the cartridges that shipped in the box. These cartridges are labeled SETUP, and they calibrate your product before the first print job. Failure to install the SETUP cartridges during the initial product setup causes an error.

Remove the cartridge from its packaging, and then pull the orange pull tab straight back to remove the plastic wrap.Figure : Remove the plastic wrap

Twist the orange cap counterclockwise to snap it off.Figure : Remove the orange cap

With the cartridge contacts facing the printhead, slide the cartridge into its slot by matching the colored icons on the cartridge with those on the printhead. Press down on the cartridge until it clicks into place.Figure : Slide the cartridge into its slot and then press down.

Repeat this procedure for each cartridge.

Step eight: Load plain paper
The following video demonstrates the steps for loading plain paper. Detailed written steps are available below.

Lower the paper tray.

Pull out the tray extender, and then flip open the paper catch.

Slide the paper width guide to its outermost position.Figure : Slide out the paper width guide

Load a stack of plain paper into the paper tray, print side down. Slide the stack of paper forward until it stops.Figure : Load paper in the tray
note:
Make sure all the paper in the stack is the same size and type and free from rips, dust, wrinkles, and curled or bent edges. -

Step nine: Align the cartridges
When you install a new cartridge, the product aligns the cartridges. You can also align the cartridges at any time using the product software. Aligning the cartridges helps produce high quality output.

When prompted after loading the paper, touch OK on the control panel to print an alignment page. The product prints an alignment page.Figure : Example of an alignment page

Place the alignment page print side down on the right front corner of the scanner glass. See the engraved guide next to the scanner glass for help loading the alignment page.Figure : Place the alignment page on the scanner glass

Lower the lid.

Touch OK. The product scans the alignment page, completing the alignment.
