HP Designjet Ultra Low End Printers - How to Perform Paper Feed Calibration

Information

Calibrate paper feed is used to adjust the printer parameters for use with different types of print media. This only affects the physical movement of paper and does not affect the color calibration profiles.

Details

This calibration is a two-step process.
  1. Print a special test page with the paper calibration test pattern. This page must be printed on A3 or 11 inches x 17 inches paper sizes. Be careful to use only sheets that are unblemished, and ensure fingerprints, marks, or debris are not on the print surface of the paper.
    1. Open HP Designjet System Maintenance on the desktop.
    2. Choose the printer model in the window that pops up.
    3. Click Next to open the System Maintenance window as shown in the following picture:
    4. Click Calibrate Paper feed on the left.
    5. Choose the type of paper that needs to be calibrated from the Paper Type drop-down.
    6. Click the print test plot button. The printer will now print the paper feed calibration page.

  2. After printing the test page, give it ample time to dry. Rotate the page 90 degrees, and reload it upside down (image facing down and arrow pointing into the printer). You must feed the test page back into the printer using the front single-sheet paper feed.
    1. Rotate the page, and reload it upside down (image facing down):

      note:
The arrow printed on this pattern must be pointing into the printer, or the calibration scan will not work. If inserted correctly, the pattern will turn face-up as it passes through the paper path, so this arrow ends up as the first thing you see (the leading edge) as the printer rolls out and scans the pattern.
    2. In the Calibrate Paper Feed window, at the bottom, click the link that reads Click here to open the Paper Feed Scan page.
    3. Choose the appropriate paper type again from the drop-down.
    4. Click Scan Test Plot to scan the paper feed calibration page.
After the calibration succeeds, this pattern should be discarded. Due to environmental conditions and differences in media it is not recommended to retain or try to re-use these patterns.
