HP Compaq 6720t Mobile Thin Client - Removing and Replacing the Flash Drive

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Flash drive for the HP Compaq 6720t Mobile Thin Client.
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required
P0 Phillips-head screw driver

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Flash drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

If your unit contains a part that is labelled with the Modified Spare number, the Modified Spare must be ordered as the replacement part. If your unit contains a part that is labelled with the Original Spare number, please order the Original Spare as the replacement part. In this case either the Original Spare or the Modified Spare may be shipped which will not affect performance or functionality of the unit.

Flash drive removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Loosen the two captive P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the flash drive cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  3. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the inside edge of the flash drive cover and remove it.
  4. Grasp the edges of the flash drive and carefully pull the flash drive toward the outside edge of the base enclosure to disconnect the flash drive from the system board connector.
  5. Lift the flash drive out of the bay and remove.
  6. Place the flash drive in a static dissipative bag.
Flash drive replacement
  1. Remove the flash drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Place the flash drive into the flash drive bay.
  3. Push the flash drive toward the inside of the base enclosure until the connector is seated.
  4. Toe the flash drive cover into the enclosure.
  5. Tighten the two captive P0 Phillips-head screws.
