HP Photosmart D7560 Printer - The Color Blocks on the Print Quality Diagnostic Page Are Streaked or Do Not Match the Color Label

Issue
The print quality diagnostic page shows color blocks that are streaked or do not match the color label on the cartridge.
Solution
Step one: Make sure that you are using genuine HP cartridges
Refilled or remanufactured cartridges often produce inferior results. HP does not support any print problems that result from the use of non-HP cartridges. Check to see if the cartridge is a counterfeit at Why buy HP - fraud information (in English) on the HP Web site.
If the cartridge is not a genuine HP cartridge, consider replacing it with a genuine HP cartridge. HP designs inks and papers to work together for the best print quality possible.
  note:
HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP supplies. Product service or repairs required as a result of using a non-HP supply will not be covered under warranty.
Step two: Check the ink levels and replace low or empty cartridges
Check ink levels from the control panel of the product or by using HP Solution Center, and then replace any low or empty cartridges.
Method one: Check the ink levels from the product control panel
  1. On the control panel display, touch the Setup icon ().
  2. Touch Tools.
  3. Touch Display Ink Gauge. The product display panel shows the estimated ink levels of all installed cartridges.
Method two: Check the ink levels with HP Solution Center
  1. Make sure that the product is on and connected to the computer.
  2. Double-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon () on the Windows taskbar. The HP Solution Center window displays.
  3. Click the Settings menu.
  4. Select Print Settings and click Printer Toolbox. The Printer Toolbox displays.
  5. Click the Estimated Ink Levels tab to see the ink levels for the cartridges.

If any of the cartridges are low on or out of ink, replace them. If the cartridges are not low, continue to "Step three: Select a higher print quality setting."
Replace the cartridge
If the print quality is still poor, the cartridges might be faulty. Replace the cartridge associated with the streaking or the incorrect color on the print quality diagnostic page.
  1. Make sure that the product is turned on.
      note:
    The attention light might blink, indicating that the cartridge is empty or the ink level is low.
  2. Lift the cartridge door to open it.

  3. Press the tab on the front of the cartridge to release it and remove it from the slot.

    • If replacing the black cartridge, push the tab of the cartridge on the far right.
    • If replacing one of the other cartridges, such as photo black, magenta, cyan, or yellow, push the tab on the appropriate cartridge to remove it.
  4. Remove the new cartridge from its packaging by pulling the orange pull-tab straight back to remove the plastic wrap.
      note:
    Make sure that the plastic wrap is removed from the cartridge before installing it in the product.

  5. Twist the orange cap to snap it off.
      note:
    A forceful twist might be required to remove the orange cap.

  6. Using the colored shape icons for guidance, slide the cartridge into the empty slot until it clicks into place and is seated firmly in the slot.

      caution:
    Do not lift the latch handle on the carriage to install the cartridges. Doing so can result in incorrectly seated cartridges and printing issues. The latch must remain down in order to install the cartridges correctly.

    Make sure that the cartridge is inserted into the slot that has the same shape icon and color as the cartridge.
      note:
    Repeat steps three through six for each cartridge to be replaced.
  7. Close the cartridge door.

  8. Print the print quality diagnostic page again.
    1. Load plain white paper into the input tray.
    2. On the product control panel, touch the Setup icon (), touch Tools, and then touch Print Quality Report.
If the issue has been resolved, there is no need to continue to troubleshoot. If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.
Step three: Select a higher print quality setting
  1. On the File menu in the software program being printed from, click Print.
  2. Click the button that opens the Properties dialog box.
      note:
    Depending on the software program, this button might be called Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
  3. Click the Features tab.
  4. In the Print Quality menu, select a high print quality setting, such as Best or Maximum dpi.
  5. Click OK.
Step four: Print and evaluate a print quality diagnostic page
  1. Load plain white paper into the input tray.
  2. On the control panel display, touch the Setup icon ().
  3. Touch Tools.
  4. Touch Print Quality Report. the Print Quality Diagnostic Page prints.
    • Look at the color blocks. If the blocks are sharp and clear and are not streaked or the incorrect color, then the printer is functioning properly. However, if the printing problem still occurs, it is being caused by something other than the printer. Check the software settings, the image file, and the media. Do not clean the printhead or replace ink cartridges if all the color blocks on the printout are present and solidly printed.
    • If any of the image is streaked, missing, or is not uniformly colored, there is a problem with that cartridge or the printhead. Follow the steps below to make sure that the cartridges are latched and vented, to align the product, and to clean the printhead.
Step five: Make sure that the cartridges are latched
  1. Make sure that the product is turned on.
  2. Lift the cartridge door to open it.

  3. Make sure that the cartridges are installed in the correct slots.

    Match the shape of the icon and color of the cartridge with the slot with the same shape of icon and color of cartridge.
  4. Run a finger along the top of the cartridges to find any cartridges that are not snapped down completely.
  5. Press down on any cartridges that are sticking up. The cartridges snap down into place.
  6. Close the cartridge door.

Step six: Make sure that the cartridges are properly vented
  1. Make sure that the product is turned on.
  2. Lift the cartridge door to open it.

  3. Press the tab on the front of each cartridge to release it and remove it from the slot.
      caution:
    Do not lift the latch handle on the carriage to remove the cartridges.

  4. Examine the vent area on each cartridge. The vent is located above the HP logo on the top of the cartridge.

    • If any of the cartridges still have the orange tabs attached, remove the tab.

    • If any of the cartridges have vents that are clogged, try cleaning the vents with a pin.

  5. Reinstall the cartridges.
  6. Close the cartridge door.

Step seven: Align the printer
If the preceding steps have not resolved the issue, try aligning the printer.
  1. On the control panel display, touch the Setup icon ().
  2. Touch Tools.
  3. Touch Align Printer. The product prints a test page, aligns the printheads, and calibrates the product. Recycle or discard the page and continue to the next step.
Step eight: Clean the printhead using the automatic utility
Print another print quality diagnostic page. If one or more color blocks is still streaked or does not match the label, try running the automatic utility to clean the printhead.
  1. Make sure that only U.S. letter or A4 size, plain, unused, white paper is loaded in the product.
  2. On the control panel display, touch the Setup icon () and then touch Tools.
  3. Use the down arrow () to scroll to Clean Printhead and then touch Clean Printhead.
  4. When the printhead cleaning is complete and the product is idle and silent, try printing the print quality diagnostic page again.
Step nine: Replace the cartridge
If the print quality is still poor, the cartridges might be faulty. Replace the cartridges.
Step ten: Contact HP
If the print quality is still poor or not as expected after replacing the cartridge, contact HP. The printhead might need to be replaced.
