HP Business Inkjet 1200dn/dtn/dtwn Printer Series - Installing Printer On a Wired Network

Setting up the printer on a wired network if the printer is not picking up the DHCP IP address
Details
To set up the printer on a wired network, perform the following steps:
  1. Make sure the hardware is ready and has printed out the Alignment confirmation pages. Connect the network cable to the printer and wait for 2-3 minutes (the maximum time set for the Network interface of the BIJ 1200 to time out searching for IP Source within the network) and print out a configuration page.
      note:
    Write down the current Firmware version of the printer and the IP address currently assigned.
  2. If the IP address is 0.0.0.0 or default IP (169.254.X.X) in the configuration page, then perform the following steps:
    1. Power cycle the printer
    2. Reset the Network interface and check if printer acquires an IP address from the IP source within the network.
    3. Try connecting the printer to a different Network port.
    If the printer still indicates the 0.0.0.0 as the IP address, flash the firmware to the latest version, and repeat steps a through c. If the printer fails to acquire an IP address, service the printer.
  3. If the printer has only the Default IP address, then complete the following steps:
    1. Connect the crossover cable between the printer and a stand alone computer.
    2. Change the IP address of the computer to the same range that of the printer. (Steps given below)
    3. Open the DOS prompt and check the IP address of the computer (Use the IPCONFIG command)
    4. Ping the IP address of the printer.
  4. If the printer does not ping, complete the following steps:
    1. Turn off the firewall
    2. Disable the Start up items (Msconfig)
    3. Flash the firmware to the latest version and repeat steps a and b. If it still fails, service the printer.
  5. If the printer pings as it should, perform the following steps:
    1. Open the EWS and change the IP to the Network’s class
    2. If there are any difficulties in accessing the EWS, or the EWS is not opening, then Click on tools in the IE browser and choose the Internet options>connection tab and LAN Settings, and keep all the boxes unchecked.
    3. Try opening the EWS.
      Assign a Free IP address in the users LAN for the Printer by selecting the manual option in the EWS as show in the previous image.
      Once a Manual IP Address is assigned for the printer, make sure the Subnet mask and the default Gateway is that of the network. Turn off the printer, remove the Cross over cable and connect the network cable. Ping the IP address assigned to the printer. Install the S/w for the printer and add the Port using the manual IP address.
      Print out a test page and confirm on the resolution.
  6. To change the IP address of the computer, complete the following steps:
    1. Double click on the network connections icon in the control panels and Rt click on the Local area connection and access the properties
    2. Under the General Tab of the LAN Properties highlight the Internet protocol and click properties
    3. Under the internet protocol properties choose the second option “use the following IP address”
    4. Put the IP address –Normally if the default IP of the printer is 169.254.211.X then we can use the following IP for the computer “169.254.211.X+1”
    5. Get the subnet mask from the configuration page of the printer 6. use the comp’s IP as the default gateway i.e. “169.254.211.X+1”
