HP Designjet Z3100PS Printer Series - Color Management

This document describes which settings to select in the printer, driver and application to achieve consistent and predictable results when using the PostScript driver in the printer.
With the HP Designjet Z3100ps printer the customer has an option to use ICC Profiles created with the HP Color Center when performing color management in the printer. The advantage of selecting this option, is that the customer’s job will contain all the color management and print settings fully embedded in the file of the job. This means it could be sent to several HP Designjet z3100ps, without having any further processing required by an application or the driver.
However the settings of the printer, driver and the application must be correct to avoid inconsistent and unexpected colors between prints.
note:
It is important to note that the rendering intent is always set from the Color options in the front panel of the printer if the user selects to perform color management inside the printer.
  1. Application settings: In the application select the option for using the PostScript printer’s color management, as opposed to the application’s color management. In the figure below, we show the example of printing from Adobe Illustrator CS3. With this application select Let Postscript printer determine colors.
    note:
Remember, after selecting the printer’s postscript printer to process the job, the rendering intent selection from this screen will not taken into account.

  2. Printer settings: Select from the ‘driver’s dialog box that the color management is to be handled by the printer (see figure below, Printer Color Management). The colorspace defined in this dialog box are for use only if the image does not already have an embedded profile.

  3. Printer settings: From your printer’s Front Panel, select Printing preferences, Color Options, Select Rendering Intent.
  4. Select the rendering intent you want to use for your Postscript jobs sent via the driver.
