HP Designjet Printers - HP-GL/2 Driver Version 4.65

Introduction
This driver release solves some problems that can happen in client-server environments with a large number of clients (big corporate environments), it also fixes a color depth issue when printing hatches and it changes the behavior of the printing progress window in some OS. The new HP-GL/2 driver version 4.65 has been released for the following HP Designjet printers:
  • Designjet 1000 series
  • Designjet 400 series
  • Designjet 200 series
  • Designjet 300 series
  • Designjet 600 series
  • Designjet 700 series
  • Designjet CP series
  • Designjet ColorPro CAD
  note:
The new 4.65 version is WHQL certified for Windows 2000 and XP.
Issues fixed in version 4.65
  • Random spooler terminations in large client-server environments - In some client-server environments with heavy usage of print servers that are using the 4.xx driver, we have seen some occurrences of random spooler terminations in the server caused by the behavior of our driver.
The cause of the issue has been identified as the driver creating more than one thread that tries to access the same global variables, thus creating an inconsistency.
  • Color depth when printing hatches - It was observed that when printing system patterns, the color palette of the driver was reduced to a few primary colors. This has been corrected, and now it is possible to print patterns using the whole document palette.
  • Printing progress window behavior change - The behavior of the printing progress window has been changed in order to minimize the risk of blue screens in certain client-server environments. The new behavior is:
    • The Printing progress window will be enabled by default in for the Windows 9x and Windows 2000, XP and 2003 server drivers. (This is the current behavior of previous versions of the driver).
    • The Printing progress window will be disabled by default in the Windows NT 4.0 drivers (This implies a change with the current behavior of the driver)
It is possible to change the behavior of the Printing progress window with the checkbox located in the Advanced tab of the driver.
The 5.35 driver will be available for download from the Web in late January or early February 2004 and will be included in the MacroInstaller version 14 CD-ROM in spring 2004.
