HP PSC 2400 and 2500 Series - Ink Smears or Smudges

Problem
The printer is working, but the printed output shows smears or smudges of ink or the image itself is smeared.
Solution
  1. Try increasing the ink drying time or decreasing ink volume.
    1. Open Director, then click Settings, Print Settings, then Printer Settings.
The printer Properties dialog box opens.
    2. Click the Basics tab, then the Advanced Features button.
    3. Click and drag the Dry Time slider toward More or the Ink Volume slider toward Light.
  2. Try decreasing print quality to Normal or Fast.
    1. Open Director, then click Settings, Print Settings, then Printer Settings.
The printer Properties dialog box opens.
    2. Click the Paper/Quality tab and choose a lower print quality setting.
  3. Try a different paper. Heavier weight paper may not smear as easily as lighter weight paper. Click here to see how to pick the best paper for your project.
  4. If none of the steps above have solved the problem, print and evaluate a self-test report. Click here to see how.
