Setting Up the Printer Hardware for the HP Officejet 6500A e-All-in-One Printer Series

Introduction

This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.
This document includes the following steps to set up the product:
  • Unpack the All-in-One
  • Connect the power cord
  • Turn on the All-in-One
  • Load paper in the tray
  • Set the control panel language
  • Install the printhead
  • Install the cartridges

Setting up the All-in-One

Follow these steps in order.
nota:
Do not connect a USB cable now. If you plan to use a USB cable to connect the printer to the computer, you will be prompted to connect it at the correct time during the software installation.

Step one: Unpack the All-in-One

Follow these steps to unpack the product.
  1. Remove all tape and packing materials from outside the product.

  2. Lift the product lid, and then remove all tape and packing materials from inside the product.

  3. Open the print-carriage access door.
  4. Remove the orange packaging material in the print carriage.

  5. Turn the product in order to access its rear side.

  6. Remove all tape and packing materials from the rear of the product.

Step two: Connect the power cord

  1. Connect the cord from the power supply into the rear of the product.
  2. Plug the power cord into the power supply.
  3. Plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

Step three: Turn on the All-in-One

Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

Step four: Set the language and country/region

Follow these steps to set the language and country/region.
  1. On the product control panel, touch the Down Arrow () until the desired language displays.
  2. Touch the desired language, and then touch Yes to accept the language setting.
  3. Touch the Down Arrow () until the desired country/region displays.
  4. Touch the desired country/region, and then touch Yes to accept the country/region setting.

Step five: Install the cartridges

Follow these steps to install the cartridges that shipped with your product.

  1. Open the cartridge access door.
  2. On one of the cartridges, pull the orange pull-tab straight back to remove the plastic wrap.

  3. Twist the orange cap counterclockwise to snap it off the cartridge.

  4. With the cartridge contacts facing the printhead, slide the cartridge into the correct slot. The color-coded icons on the cartridge and in the printhead must match.

  5. Press down on the cartridge until it clicks firmly into place.

  6. Repeat these steps for each cartridge.
  7. Close the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the right side of the product.

  8. Wait while the product aligns the printheads, and then prints an alignment page.

Step six: Install the duplexer (some models only)

  1. Turn the product in order to access its rear side.

  2. Angle the duplexer to the left side of the product, and then insert the left side of the duplexer into the rear access area.

  3. Push in the right side of the duplexer until it clicks.

Step seven: Load paper in the tray

  1. Lift the output tray.

  2. Insert the paper print-side down along the right side of the input tray. Make sure that the paper aligns with the right and back edges of the tray and is not higher than the line marking in the tray.
  3. Adjust the paper width guide inward so it rests against the edge of the paper but does not bind the paper.

  4. Close the output tray.

  5. Pull out the extension on the output tray, and then open the paper catch at the end of the output tray extension.
