HP LaserJet Pro MFP - Scan to a USB flash drive

Learn how to scan a file directly to a USB flash drive.

You can also use the HP Smart app to scan documents and photos from the printer, capture items with the computer camera, or use the scan tools with files saved on the computer. By using HP Smart and pairing your printer with your HP account, you can access advanced scanning features, such as scanning to cloud locations.

Save a scanned document directly to a USB flash drive

Use the printer control panel to scan a document and save it to a USB flash drive.

In addition to the steps below, you can view the following video of how to scan to a USB flash drive.

  1. Place the document on the scanner glass or into the document feeder according to the indicators on the printer.

  2. Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port on the front of the printer.

    A Reading... message displays on the printer control panel.

  3. On the Memory Device Options screen, touch Scan To.

  4. Select a file type from the Save As list.

  5. Touch <Filename>, use the keypad to enter a name for the scanned file, and then touch Save.

  6. If you want to preview the scan or change the scan options, do the following:

    • To preview the scan, touch the Preview icon Preview icon or Touch to Preview. (The scan preview option varies depending on the printer model.)

    • For additional scan options, touch the Settings icon Settings icon.

  7. Touch Save.
