HP printers - 'Unable to register the printer to your account' error

During printer setup, the printer does not connect to HP cloud services and an Unable to register the printer to your account error displays with the error code UA_200_OWSVD00001 or OW_4XX_0WSWS00001 in the HP Smart app or HP Easy Start. Finish printer setup to register the printer to your account.

Perform the following tasks in the order given. Try to complete the printer setup after each task.

'Unable to register the printer to your account' error

Make sure the printer is ready for software setup

Check for any remaining packing materials and make sure the printer is in a ready state.

Make sure all packing materials and tape have been removed. Open the cartridge access door and the paper tray to look for and remove any remaining materials inside the printer.

Note:
For HP ENVY Inspire 7200 and 7900 printers, remove the additional cardboard between the paper trays and the tape securing the trays.

Example of possible tape locations
Turn the printer off and then on again.
Return to the error window in the HP Smart app, and then click Try Again.

If the issue is not resolved, select Exit Setup, and then close HP Smart. Restart the printer, and then reopen HP Smart to complete the setup.

Restore factory defaults on your HP printer

Reset the printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

Restore factory defaults (printers with touchscreens)

Reset the printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

Restore factory defaults (most printers with touchscreens)

Restore the printer to factory default settings from the touchscreen settings menu.

On the printer control panel, touch the Setup icon , and then touch Printer Maintenance.
Touch Restore, and then touch Restore Factory Defaults.
On the confirmation prompt, touch Continue to complete restoring to factory defaults.

Restore HP Smart Tank 790, 7600 printers

Reset your printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

On the printer control panel, touch Menu.
Swipe down, and then touch Tools.
Touch Maintenance, and then Restore Settings.
Touch Restore Factory Defaults.

Restore factory defaults (printers without touchscreens)

Reset the printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

Restore HP DeskJet 2700, 2800, 4100, 4200, 4900, ENVY 6000e, 6400e printers

Reset your printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

Open the cartridge access door.
Press and hold the Power button and Wireless button for three seconds.
Wait for 20 seconds for the printer to reset.

Restore HP LaserJet M109e printers

Reset your printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

Unplug the power cord.
Press and hold the Resume/Cancel button , and then plug the power cord.
Continue to press and hold the Resume/Cancel button for 10 seconds.
When the status LED (green Power LED) turns on, release the Resume/Cancel button .
Wait for 20 seconds for the printer to reset.

Restore HP LaserJet MFP M139e printers

Reset your printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

Unplug the power cord.
Press and hold the Up button and Cancel button , and then plug the power cord.
When the printer display shows an nv message, release the buttons.
Wait for 20 seconds for the printer to reset.

Restore HP LaserJet M207e printers

Reset your printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

Unplug the power cord.
Press and hold the Resume button , and then plug the power cord.
When the Information light turns on, release the Resume button .

The printer restarts to complete the reset.

Restore HP LaserJet MFP M232e (d, dw, and dwe) printers

Reset your printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

Unplug the power cord.
Press and hold the Resume button , and then plug the power cord.
When the Information light turns on, release the Resume button .

An nv message displays on the printer control panel, and then the printer restarts to complete the reset.

Restore HP LaserJet MFP M232e (sdn, sdw, sdne, and sdwe) printers

Reset your printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

Unplug, and then plug the power cord.
When the Status light blinks, press and hold the Resume button until the Status light is on.

An nv message displays on the printer control panel, and then the printer restarts to complete the reset.

Restore HP Smart Tank 670, 720, 750, 6000, 7000, 7300 printers

Reset your printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

Press and hold the Information button for five seconds until the control panel buttons light.
Lift the ink access door.
Press and hold the Information button and Cancel button for three seconds.
Lower the ink access door.

Restore HP Smart Tank 210, 520, 540, 580, 5100 printers

Reset your printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

Press the Power button and wait for the printer to completely turn off.
Press and hold the Resume button and Black Copy button simultaneously, and then press the Power button to turn on the printer.
Continue to hold the Resume button and Black Copy button for five seconds, and then release the buttons.

Remove the printer from the HP Smart app

Remove your printer in HP Smart.

Close the HP Smart app, and then reopen it.
Right-click or long-press the printer icon, and then click Hide Printer or Forget Printer.

Set up the printer using the HP Smart app

Set up your printer using the HP Smart app.

Open the HP Smart app.
Click Add Printer or to find your printer.
Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your printer.

If you are unable to complete the setup, restart the HP Smart app, and then try again.
