HP printers - 'Driver is unavailable’ or a yellow bang when connecting USB (ARM64, Windows 10)
When connecting an HP printer to an ARM 64-bit computer with a USB cable to do Plug and Play, the following issues can be seen.
-
A Driver is unavailable message displays under the printer name in Printers & Scanners.
-
A yellow triangle (yellow bang)
displays next to the printer icon in Devices and Printers.
-
A yellow bang
and Troubleshoot selection display in the printer's right-click menu in Devices and Printers.
-
In Device Manager, the printer is listed under Print queues and in Other devices with a yellow bang
.
The printer is installed and is functioning as designed, but other functions, such as scanning, do not work. This happens because the plug-and-play drivers for USB composite devices support printing for ARM64, but not other functions such as the LEDM/Scanner.
To prevent this problem, disconnect the printer from the USB connection and install the printer over a Wi-Fi connection.
Add a network printer to Windows
Set up a Wi-Fi or wired network printer in Windows without installing any additional drivers.
