HP Desktop PCs - Cannot Open Microsoft Office Starter 2010 Applications After Performing a System Restore (Windows 7 and Vista)

This document applies to HP Desktop PCs running either Windows 7 or Vista with Microsoft Office Starter 2010 installed.
After performing a Windows System Restore and then installing Microsoft Office Starter 2010, Office applications fail to open and one of the following error messages is displayed:
  • Microsoft Excel Starter 2010 cannot be opened. Try again or repair the product in the Control Panel.
  • Microsoft Word Starter 2010 cannot be opened. Try again or repair the product in the Control Panel.
Perform the following to resolve this issue:
  1. Click Start, and then type Program and Features in the Start Search field.
  2. Right-click on Microsoft Office Starter Edition 2010, and then click Change.
  3. Click Yes to begin the Microsoft Office Starter Edition 2010 repair utility.
  4. Once the repair is complete, click OK.
