HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2010 Printer Series (K010) - Troubleshooting print problems

If you're having trouble printing or your print jobs don't look the way you expected, click the appropriate link to see some possible solutions:
Troubleshooting common print problems
Try the following solutions to resolve the issue. Solutions are listed in order, with the most likely solution first. If the first solution does not solve the problem, continue trying the remaining solutions until the issue is resolved.
Solution 1: Resume printing on your printer control panel
  1. If the Power light is blinking, press the Power button to resume printing.
  2. Try using your printer again.
Solution 2: Change the print settings to match the current job
  1. On the File menu in your software application, click Print.
  2. Make sure the product is the selected printer.
  3. Click the button that opens the Properties dialog box.
Depending on your software application, this button might be called Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
  4. Click the Paper/Quality tab.
  5. Click the Paper Size drop-down list, and then select the type of paper that you have loaded.
For example, select Letter or A4. For photos, select the appropriate paper size. For envelopes, select the appropriate envelope size.
  6. If you're printing photos or other specialty papers, click the Media drop-down list and select the corresponding paper type.
      note:
To print in grayscale or with maximum DPI, click the Advanced button and make your changes.
  7. Click OK, and then click OK again to print with these settings.
Troubleshooting cartridge problems
Try the following solutions to resolve the issue. Solutions are listed in order, with the most likely solution first. If the first solution does not solve the problem, continue trying the remaining solutions until the issue is resolved.
Solution 1: Check the ink levels and replace low or empty cartridges
  1. Click the HP Printer desktop icon to open the Printer Software.
      note:
You can also access the Printer Software by clicking Start > Programs > HP > HP Deskjet 2010 K010 series > HP Deskjet 2010 K010 series.
  2. In the Printer Software, click Estimated Ink Levels.
      note:
If you have installed a refilled or remanufactured cartridge, or a cartridge that has been used in another printer, the ink level indicator might be inaccurate or unavailable.
      note:
Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When an indicator shows low ink levels, consider having a replacement cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. Print quality deteriorates as cartridges run out of ink.
  3. If the ink-level graphic shows low or empty cartridges and you are dissatisfied with the quality of your printouts, replace the cartridges now.
If the ink-level graphic shows full cartridges, you do not need to replace the cartridges yet. Continue to the next solution.
      note:
If you can't access the Printer Software, check the printer control panel. If a cartridge light is on, but not blinking, it may indicate that the printer is low on ink.
Solution 2: Check for missing cartridges
  1. If the Estimated Ink Levels screen shows a red X by a cartridge, or if a cartridge light is blinking, then the cartridge may not be installed, and the printer is printing in single-cartridge mode. For better print quality, install the indicated cartridge.
Use single-cartridge mode to operate the printer with only one cartridge. Single-cartridge mode is initiated when a cartridge is removed from the carriage. If only the black cartridge is installed, prints will be in grayscale. If only the color cartridge is installed, prints will be in color, but black will be grayer instead of true black.
  2. Install two cartridges in the printer to exit single-cartridge mode.
  3. Try using your printer again.
Solution 3: Reinstall the cartridges
  1. Check the power.
  2. Load paper.
  3. Remove the cartridge.
    1. Open the cartridge door.
Wait for the print carriage to move to the center of the printer.
Figure : Graphic - Lift the cartridge door
Press down to release the cartridge, then remove it from slot.
Figure : Graphic - Press the tab on the cartridge to remove it
  4. If the cartridge is new, verify that shipping tape has been removed.
New cartridges ship with protective plastic tape. When plastic tape covers the cartridge contacts, the printer cannot detect that the cartridge is installed.
Figure : Graphic - Remove the protective plastic tape from the cartridge
  5. Insert the cartridge again.
    1. Slide the cartridge into the slot until it clicks into place.
Figure : Graphic - Install the cartridge
      Close the cartridge door.
Figure : Graphic - Close the cartridge door
  6. Try using your printer again.
Solution 4: Ensure the cartridges are compatible
  1. The print cartridges may be incompatible. Ensure that you have the right cartridge for your printer. For more information, refer to the documentation that came with your printer.
  2. Try using your printer again.
HP recommends that you use genuine HP print cartridges. Genuine HP print cartridges are designed and tested with HP printers to help you easily produce great results, time after time.
